ルウェーのバンドChrome Hillと私と本田珠也(ds)さんのバンドDojoのアルバム「Free Ranger」のレビューがノルウェーの雑誌Dag og Tigに掲載されました。
We're starting to see some reviews of the latest Chrome Hill + Dōjō collaboration, "Free Rangers." This is from the Norwegian weekly Dag og Tid:
———————
DISCIPLINED ENERGY DISCHARGES: A HIGH-ENERGY MEETING FROM CHROME HILL & DŌJŌ
“Chrome Hill & Dōjō / Free Rangers” (Clean Feed Records)
Asbjørn Lerheim, electric bass, electric guitar and electronics; Roger Arntzen, double bass and electronics; Atle Nymo, saxophone and bass clarinet, Michiyo Yagi, electric koto and electronics; Tamaya Honda, drums.
Clean Feed Records According to the press release, the music on this album is "jazz-rock noir". But this is as far from the polished jazz-rock / fusion of the 80’s as you can get. Here you find elements from both jazz and rock, but of the noisier kind. The music is also characterized as "boundary-breaking post-Americana.” In addition to conventional instruments, there is also a lot of electronic processing of the sounds, and it is not always possible to differentiate between the various instruments. But the Japanese duo Dōjō delivers high-energy improvisational drumming as well as non-tempered playing from the 21-string koto. The previous album with these musicians was recorded live at an avant-garde club in Japan, but this recording was made at Amper Tone Studio in Oslo, and it was released by the Portuguese record company Clean Feed. Although large stretches of the album are high-energy noise music, the overall sound is clear and transparent. The album has a playing time of almost an hour, but the music is focused and energetic, whether it is noisy power discharges or controlled, quiet parts. And the mix of styles between free jazz, noise rock, Americana and elements from traditional Japanese music works throughout.
