Wild Zero (1999) - rock ‘n’ roll never dies! Thanks to @pyramid_club_aotearoa and @blackflockartcollective for putting on this screening with an intro + Q & A with the legendary @guitarwolf himself.
Check out Black Flock for their upcoming horror film festival.
“Love has no borders, nationalities, or genders!” — Guitar Wolf
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) - nothing beats Lynch on the big screen. Thanks to fishinthe.percolator for putting this on at @roxycinemanz . One of the scariest films of all time and it hits even harder in the cinema. Sad, strange and seared in your mind - welcome to Twin Peaks.
Dracula (1931) — What a treat to see this on the big screen @embassytheatrewgtn , thanks to @eventcinemasnz . So cool and iconic. I lost count of how many shots I wanted to frame as stills and hang on the wall. Bela Lugosi is magnetic and genuinely chilling at times. It’s worth watching just to see him lay down the blueprint for generations to come.
Farewell, Bud. Obviously, Harold and Maude is one of my favourite films — nothing breaks my heart or makes me laugh in quite the same way. I first saw you when I was a young teen, watching But I’m a Cheerleader late at night, and I have a soft spot for Brewster McCloud for allowing me to crush on you and Shelley Duvall at the same time. Thanks for the memories.

Gathering Shadows, Aotearoa’s biggest mini goth festival for over a decade, is under new creative direction. The 2026 festival aims to showcase a broader range of artists and styles, while still honouring the ethos and community of the originators’ vision. Meet the new creative team behind GS 2026:
Hayden (he/him) is a local musician and music video creator. He has previously performed at Gathering Shadows and is one half of Pōneke post-punk duo @breachesband . His goal for the festival is to reach a wider audience and create a platform for artists who fall outside the mainstream.
Cordelia (she/her) is an indie musician and artist (Wallowitch) based in Pōneke, who orbits around the halcyon days of 80s and 90s dance music. She has frequented and performed at Gathering Shadows (formerly Shadowplay) over the years, embracing the associated community on a personal and professional level.
Lucy (she/they) is Pōneke artist Fèng, a dreamy bedroom pop persona. She is also a Gathering Shadows performance alumni, having played as Slow and LTTLE PHNX. Lucy has event-managed at Meow, Pōneke’s mainstay independent music venue, and hopes to broaden the festival’s reach to anyone with a (inner) dark side. 📸 of Lucy by @ted.black
