Education week doesn’t just end this week, the celebration of excellence is continuous within our board.
From the early years to secondary school, students are building strong foundations and gaining the skills they need for the future — problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, and confidence.
With pathways that include apprenticeship, college, university, workplace, and community-connected learning, every student can find their direction.
At HWDSB, being excellent means being ready for what comes next!

May is Mental Health month and from May 4- 10th, we recognize Mental Health Week—a time to pause, reflect, and shine a light on the importance of mental well-being for students, families, and staff.
Mental health affects how we learn, connect, cope with challenges, and show up for one another every day. By recognizing this week, we acknowledge that mental health is just as important as physical health—and that everyone deserves understanding, care, and access to support.
In our school communities, promoting mental well-being means creating safe, supportive spaces where students feel seen, heard, and valued.

From Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8, HWDSB celebrates Education Week with the theme “Be Excellent. Be Future Ready.”
Aligned with HWDSB’s Multi‑Year Strategic Plan and its focus on Future Preparedness, this theme reflects our shared commitment to learning environments that build skills, confidence, and adaptability.
From the early years through secondary pathways, students are encouraged to see excellence as effort, growth, and learning—supporting them today as they prepare for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow.
HWDSB staff rolled up their sleeves to decorate Smile Cookies in support of Hamilton Food Share and Food4Kids Hamilton through the Tim Hortons #SmileCookie campaign.
From April 27–May 3, every Smile Cookie purchased at participating Hamilton locations helps support kids, families, and seniors right here in our community — with 100% of proceeds staying local.
Grateful to be part of something that spreads a little kindness (and a lot of icing) across Hamilton 🩷🩵
Coming soon 👀
New websites for the Board and all 93 schools are coming as part of our commitment to accessibility, communication, and engagement under our Multi‑Year Strategic Plan.
More to come in early May!

Today, on the National Day of Mourning, we pause to remember workers who have lost their lives, been injured, or become ill as a result of workplace-related incidents.
As a community, we honour those impacted and reaffirm our shared commitment to care, safety, and diligence across our working and learning spaces.
Staff and students are invited to observe a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m.
Flags across HWDSB schools, administrative buildings, and the Education Centre are flying at half-mast in remembrance.
Together, we honour their stories and commit to safer workplaces for all.
Today we recognize and thank our school bus drivers for the care, patience, and professionalism they bring to their role each day.
You help ensure students arrive safely, ready to learn and ready to head home.
Thank you for all that you do for our school communities! 🚌💛
Something new is coming 💻✨
We’re working on refreshed websites for the Board and all 93 schools! Designed to be more accessible, easier to navigate, and better connected to our communities.
Early May will bring big improvements to HWDSB!
