This year‘s King and Queen were chosen by the public with a voting system that elected Bruno as King and Molly as Queen. Our panel of judges were in charge of choosing the winners for our three categories.

A message from Hela and Loki's new family! "We adopted Hela and Loki (originally Ember and Ash) back in November, and they have been such a joy in our lives.
Hela, who was scared and timid, hiding under a bench when we first met her, has grown to love and trust the whole household (maybe not the dog, but we are working on it. 😜). She loves to snuggle with Mom and Dad and is a big fan of hiding any and all things in our shoes. 🤣 She has the quietest meow I have ever heard, but the loudest purr. She is our princess.
Loki is the biggest love. He thinks he is a person. He wants to be cradled and carried around by anyone who will hold him. Loves belly scratches and often sleeps sprawled out. He trusts anyone who walks in our door and is always the center of attention. 💚 He also has such a wild side. His zoomies are quite the show, and he knows no limits. He definitely runs the show.
We are so thankful we found these two. We love them more than I can describe. 💜"

After spending the past month and a half recovering from a life-saving surgery, Spencer is finally ready to find his forever home!!🏡🐶🤍
Spencer arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center from a partner rescue in San Antonio, Texas, when he was only a few weeks old. When he came in with his siblings, our medical team quickly noticed that Spencer was much smaller than the rest of them. Despite treatment for Giardia and hookworm, he continued experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and a reduced appetite.
After countless tests and thousands of dollars in medical care, an ultrasound finally revealed the cause, which was a rare and life-threatening condition called intestinal intussusception, where the intestines telescope into themselves and create a deadly blockage. Without emergency surgery, Spencer would not have survived.
On April 1, Spencer underwent a nearly 6-hour emergency surgery that required doctors to remove one-third of his intestines to save his life.
Since then, Spencer has spent the last several weeks recovering in loving foster homes, where he has continued to show everyone just how resilient, sweet, and full of life he truly is. Through every challenge, Spencer has kept the happiest attitude and remains such a loving, playful puppy!
Now, after everything he has overcome, Spencer is finally ready to find the forever family he deserves! Will you be the family he hopes to have? Stop by HWAC to meet him this weekend! We will be open from 10 am-6 pm! 🐾

Motherhood comes in all forms… and sometimes, it comes with extra toes. 🐾💕
This year for Mother’s Day, we celebrated a very special mama at Helen Woodward Animal Center who proves that love has no limits.
Mama Mittens, a beautiful polydactyl calico cat (meaning she was born with extra toes and extra-large paws), arrived at the Center from a partner rescue in Long Beach with her tiny 3-week-old kitten, Socks. But shortly after their arrival, a lonely litter of six orphaned 1-week-old kittens was rescued nearby after they were abandoned. Fragile, hungry, and in desperate need of care, their future was uncertain.
That’s when Mama Mittens stepped in.
The moment she met the tiny orange tabbies, she pulled them close, began feeding them, and started caring for them as if they had always been her own babies. Overnight, this incredible cat went from raising one kitten to raising seven. 💙
Now, thanks to her endless love and nurturing spirit, all seven kittens are thriving and growing stronger every day. Soon, Mama Mittens, Socks, and their adopted siblings, Flip, Flop, Jean, Jacket, Hat, and Scarf, will be ready to find loving forever homes of their own.

Simba is a 13 month old, male, and a very handsome orange kitty! Simba can come off as a little bit timid, but once he opens up and feels comfortable he is so sweet, cuddly, curious and affectionate (swipe for proof!) ⭐️
