We were honored to see His Royal Highness, King Frederik, seated at a very special table during his first New Year’s speech as King of Denmark.
The table is an exquisite piece of craftsmanship, created by carpenter L. Pontoppidan as a wedding gift for Princess Margrethe and Count Henri de Monpezat.
Prince Henrik used this table in his daily work, and now our King has chosen to continue the tradition by using his father’s desk.
Enclosed are pictures from the speech, along with a newspaper article highlighting the table’s remarkable design, while also crediting the architects Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for their outstanding work.

The AX Chair
“AX represents one of the first times that plywood was shaped in 3D. The continuous curve of the armrests is mirrored in the frame, indicative of Hvidt & Mølgaard’s training in Danish cabinetry. Their expert engineering of the construction ensures unsurpassed ergonomics, resulting in the design’s reputation as the most comfortable wooden chair of its kind. Available in Lacquered Oak and Walnut or Dark Stained Oak and Walnut.” @andtradition
Welcome back AX. Good to see you again.
Designed by in 1950 - reintroduced in 2024 by @andtradition
The AX chair, a classic that represents a milestone in midcentury
design. One of the early examples of laminated veneer furniture, and one of first times that plywood could be shaped in 3D, resulting in the most
comfortable wooden chair of its kind.
The chair put the Hvidt & Mølgaard company on the world map, and the reason why the Hvidt & Mølgaard furnitures are being reproduced.

Interview for Monocle Magazine
“Reviving the family firm
Continuing the legacy of a family firm is challenging after the founders have moved on. It’s a situation faced by the families behind Hvidt & Mølgaard Furniture.
The Copenhagen-based company was started and run by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen between 1944 and 1975. Now it is experiencing a rebirth led by the founders’ families and their grandchildren, Kasper Mølgaard and Malene Hvidt (pictured)”
