Maia is one of the bravest little souls you could ever meet. šŸ’› Maia, now aged 9, was first diagnosed with Philadelphia positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2023 — an aggressive form of childhood leukemia — and faced her battle with incredible bravery from the very beginning. After enduring months of treatment, Maia courageously fought and beat her cancer. During her time undergoing treatment at PCH, Maia became a shining light within the oncology unit — a kind, sweet and fiercely brave young girl who was always a supportive friend to the other kids going through their own battles with cancer. After finishing treatment, Maia was able to spend 8 precious months at home with her family in Darkan. Devastatingly, Maia has since relapsed and is once again courageously fighting cancer. Maia and her mum Ella have relocated to Perth so Maia can undergo treatment, while the rest of the family travel from the country on weekends to be together. Maia is about to begin another intense phase of treatment including radiotherapy, immunotherapy and high-dose chemotherapy before receiving a life-saving bone marrow transplant from her incredibly brave 11 year old sister, Makenzie. Maia is surrounded by so much love from her parents Ella and Tim and her siblings Makaelah (14), Makenzie (11), Oli (6) and Eli (4). Despite everything she has faced, Maia continues to show incredible strength, resilience, courage and a smile that lights up the room. Hurt to Help is honoured to support Maia and her family as they face another long and difficult journey, helping to ease some of the financial pressure that comes with battling childhood cancer twice and plenty of ice cream for Maia to enjoy! Maia, we are all behind you. You are one fierce little champ. šŸ’›

šŸ¤ Hurt to Help recipient — Everline Kerse šŸ¤ The unexpected loss of a child is an unimaginable heartbreak — one no parent could ever prepare for. Little Everline was just over two years old when she collapsed one morning and went into cardiac arrest. Two weeks earlier, she had been unwell with a persistent fever that wouldn’t break, a rash, a high heart rate, and symptoms that were later recognised as Kawasaki disease — a condition that primarily affects children under five and can be difficult to diagnose if it isn’t specifically tested for. Kawasaki disease often presents as a high fever lasting more than five days, redness around the eyes and mouth, a ā€œstrawberryā€ tongue or lips, rashes, peeling skin on the hands or feet, and swollen lymph nodes. Awareness is critical. Everline was a beautiful, smart, and deeply loving little girl. She loved singing and dancing, her dinosaurs, and little adventures with Mum and Dad. She adored her dog friends (Patch, Leo, Bundy and Diesel), playing in water and sand, and proudly holding the steering wheel on the tractor. She gave the best hugs and kisses, always said please and thank you, and never hesitated to ask, ā€œAre you okay?ā€ or say, ā€œI love you mummy, I love you daddy.ā€ šŸ’› Hurt to Help’s $20,000 donation will go directly toward supporting Everline’s parents, Jason and Marjoline — helping cover everyday expenses and giving their daughter a beautiful farewell, while allowing them time and space to grieve without immediate financial pressure. Thank you for standing with Everline’s family šŸ¤

We’re incredibly proud to introduce Jayme as the newest member of the Hurt to Help athlete team ā¤ļø Today, Jayme took on Ultratrail Australia 100 — her first race in two years after being diagnosed with lymphoma in January 2025. Originally from Esperance, Jayme experienced firsthand the reality so many regional WA families face when serious illness strikes: travelling back and forth to Perth for treatment while trying to hold life together at home. Diagnosed with a rare NK/T-cell lymphoma, she underwent chemotherapy in Perth, leaving her family every three weeks for treatment. Thankfully, Jayme responded well to chemotherapy and fought her way back to running. But she knows not everyone gets that same opportunity, which is why she chose to turn her return to the trails into something bigger than herself — raising funds to support WA families facing medical hardship. Before becoming unwell, Jayme had only entered a handful of races, yet finished as first female at Margaret River Ultra Marathon in both 2023 and 2024, as well as Surf Coast Century 2023. She was training for UTA100 when her diagnosis changed everything. Outside of running, Jayme is a mum of four, works part-time as a physiotherapist in Esperance, and spends most of her training hours on trails with her dogs by her side. Running has been a constant source of strength and peace throughout her journey. Jayme’s story is exactly what Hurt to Help is about — turning suffering into support for others. We can’t wait to follow her journey. If you’d like to support Jayme and help WA families doing it tough during medical treatment, you can donate to her campaign here ā¤ļø hurt-to-help.grassrootz.com/jayme-bergman-hurt-to-help-athlete

We wanted to share an update on two very special girls, Rosie and Lottie. Rosie and Lottie were born unexpectedly at just 26 weeks while visiting Albany from Karratha. Within hours of their arrival, they were flown to Perth for specialist care. Both girls suffered severe brain bleeds, leading to hydrocephalus, and underwent multiple brain surgeries in their first weeks of life. They spent 5 months in hospital fighting through more than most of us could ever imagine. Resuscitation, blood transfusions, oxygen support, feeding challenges, and more. Their journey has remained incredibly intense. Living remotely meant regular emergency flights, hospital stays, and ongoing care. Eventually, their family made the decision to relocate to Albany to be closer to support. Now 4 years old, the girls continue to show incredible strength, spirit & personality. From mum Whitney, here’s a glimpse of the past year. "Rosie and Lottie turned four in March, and the past year has been filled with both challenge & strength. Medically, it has been a difficult road, with emergency visits, hospital stays, and specialist appointments. From seizures that stopped breathing, to kidney infections and stones, hip surgeries, and more, there always seems to be something happening, yet the girls continue to amaze us. Through it all, Rosie and Lottie show unbelievable resilience and adaptability. Rosie’s imagination and speech have flourished. She loves her toys and racing around in her pink car, loudly demanding to go faster, even having her legs in a cast hasn’t slowed her down. Lottie continues to make steady gains, now holding the handlebars on her bike independently, growing stronger in her walker, working hard in physio, and enjoying a big, healthy appetite. Excitingly, the girls will start kindy next year alongside 3 other children with cerebral palsy." Your support helps families like Rosie and Lottie’s access the therapies, care & opportunities that continue to move them forward. If you’d like to stand behind families just like this, tickets to our 2026 Heroes for Hope Gala are now available.

ETHAN STIRRAT 🤯 2nd in 80km, 4th in 42km and NEW Grand Slam record by over 2 hours… And he’s doing it all for charity! Mate, leave some success for the rest of us šŸ˜‚ In all seriousness, the back-to-back runs Ethan Stirrat delivered at Margaret River Ultra was the arguably the most impressive performance of the entire weekend – maybe the event’s history! (And that’s saying something considering @benleeson21 destroyed the 80km record by ~20 minutes; The @oggingsquad girls obliterated the relay record; and the the winner of the 42km, @lisamannix , is the mother to 4 young kids!) Ethan didn’t just run 122km of soft sand and tough terrain (80km Sat and 42km Sun)... He did it at elite paces that put him the pointy end of BOTH events (against top athletes who had trained, tapered and fuelled for only ONE 🤯) It’s not surprising he took out the Grand Slam (the name we give for the double-header) record by 2 hours and 16 minutes!! Ethan is doing all this to raise awareness for his charity, @hurttohelp_ , which provides crucial financial aid to individuals and families affected by medical issues, accidents, natural disasters, domestic violence, and other crises. Did we mention Ethan is a doctor too.... We give up šŸ˜‚ #margaretriverultra

We have an update on Justine, Louis, and their beautiful family, one of our much-loved Hurt to Help recipients. Lou was first diagnosed with a rare brain cancer in 2024, and during his treatment, the family relocated from Geraldton to Perth to access the care he needed. In 2025, Justine then faced her own diagnosis with breast cancer, thankfully able to undergo treatment closer to home. And now, another chapter in their story (as told by mum, Justine) ā€œLouis, our incredibly brave boy, has hit another speed bump in the road, and quite literally jumped over it, moving forward full steam ahead. Last month, Louis was diagnosed with a second cancer. Following a routine MRI, doctors discovered a renal cell carcinoma, and within a week, his medical team had acted swiftly, performing a partial nephrectomy to remove the tumour. We are so incredibly grateful for the way Louis’ doctors and medical team continue to move mountains for us. The speed, care, and expertise they’ve shown has been nothing short of extraordinary. The best news, his tumour was fully resected, and no further treatment is required at this stage. Louis gets to stay home in Geraldton. He will continue with routine MRIs as his team keeps a close and watchful eye.ā€ Behind the scenes, this journey has been immense. Since January alone, the family has made 9 trips to Perth, spending over 4 and a half weeks away from home. In the past 6 months, that’s been 13 trips, around 6 weeks in total. During that time: Justine underwent a double mastectomy. Louis bravely faced multiple procedures, repairing damage from chemotherapy, having half his kidney removed, and another surgery to remove a stent supporting his kidney. This family continues to meet every challenge with strength, courage, and unwavering love for one another. For now, they are home. Together. Moving forward. If you’d like to support families just like this, tickets to our 2026 Heroes for Hope Gala are now available, this is exactly where your impact goes.
