Not your typical garage!
We wrapped up this sweet little garage addition in mission hills last year and little did I know, at the time, what would get stored inside. (Not your average daily driver!)
This goal of this project was to create a simple understated garage that complimented the house and gave some privacy to the back yard. The new stone wall hides the stairs to the back yard and ties the forms together beautifully. It also lends a sense of elevation and privacy for when the family hang out on the patio.
The garage also sits just slightly tucked behind the house and is rotated slightly off axis at to the house . Itโs these little details that really give this a quiet elegance and make this one of my favorite projects.
Doesnโt hurt that it houses a classic beautiful classic Dino either!

Itโs all in the Details!
These custom cabinets were designed to feel like furniture floating in the space . They sit on custom fabricated mirror polished stainless frames that rest slightly behind the face of the cabinets.
The mirror polish stainless contrasts the warmth of the custom teak veneer at times reflecting the warm tone of the wood or the even the trees outside side. Sometimes you even sense the movement of people and light as you move around the space.
The interplay of cold metal and warm wood is simply beautiful. Our fabrication team in the shop worked closely with the Architects and Metal fabrication crew to bring this together seamlessly.

Been a few mishaps getting the panels to cooperate but itโs turning out awesome! This kitchen is gonna be something else .

The magnificent porch got some shiny rims last week, and copper no less!
We most often see copper used for small accents like dormer roofs or entrances but this time we got to do the whole dang thing and itโs gorgeous.
We love working on projects where design, materiality and craft are the value proposition.
This starts in design and flows trough great clients. When more cost effective options for roofing were put out there , the answer was a resounding NO! Both from a design and a craft perspective . A membrane roof would not elicit the same character for this amazing structure. Being visible from the second floor of the home , a membrane roof would also have been a constant reminder of that comprimise.
I realize that this level of attention is not appropriate for all circumstances but it sure is nice when we can be a part of a team that holds the line.

Not only does this help the client understand what is happening , it references the floor plan and finish schedule in realtime for the other trades coming through from plumbers to finish carpenters and tile guys.

Here our Site Super, Masons reviewing tile layout options for the team. When critical alignments are at play itโs important to heave everyone there to see how things will land , and be able to help craft the desired out come .

Our Courtyard residence redux project is in full swing ! This unique home is getting major overhaul complete with new kitchen , butler pantry, powder room and office as well as repositioning the stairs to the basement .
No Project is without its troubles and this one is no exception. The demo revealed multiple issues that will need to be addressed in order to create the new vision for the space designed by the talented team @kalibuchananinteriordesign
Itโs hard work to build the perfect box within the chaos that an older home can present. Flattening and re-leveling floors, plumbing walls, adding in missing structural components and repairing others. But the patient and thoughtful team @schelpconstruction is working through them one issue at a time.
I love the process of reimagine and breathing new life into these spaces .
