Shot these on an expired roll of Kodak Elite Color slide film I found while going through my late uncle’s darkroom. I had no rush to get through the roll, it took a few weeks to shoot and a few years to get it into a darkroom.
The film didn’t behave the way it was supposed to. Colors shifted, things bled and faded in ways I couldn’t fully control. Funny thing, a positive film usually used for documentation purposes.
There’s my brother-in-law, and my niece and nephew in New York. They’ve grown a bit by now. My partner, back when we had just moved in together, checking out a new park. A bike trip with friends in Georgia, next door to my uncle’s. My aunt waiting for us after each ride with food and something to drink.
A lot has changed since then. The kids keep growing. My partner and I have settled into something steady. One friend is about to have a kid, the other… we don’t really talk anymore.
I keep thinking about how the film turned out. Unexpected, but not completely surprising. Things drift, shift, develop differently than you planned. I guess things aren’t so abrupt. I could see all of it coming, just not so clearly.
Things may not develop how we plan, but I’ll keep trying to look at the positives
