Christmas means so much to so many people but for us at the farm it means horses, connection, and paying it forward.
90 volunteers gathered along side of us to give 45 children from local valley shelters and group homes a little joy in spite of the uncertainty and darkness that has already made way into their lives. All was bright as they rotated their way through Cookie Decorating with @trujillostreats , scavenger hunts, horse back riding and Santa’s Toy Shop sponsored by @chapmancares .
It’s our favorite day of the year ❤️ and we’re so grateful for all the hearts that gathered together to make it happen and a special thanks to @imagesbyblairecatherine for capturing the day 🙏

“If you asked me what stands out the most about what we do here at Hunkapi, it would be the growth I see within the kids and adults that come through our gates, especially within our Equine Assisted Life Skills program. It starts off small, building the connection first, focusing on groundwork like haltering and leading, learning how to trust a 1000 lbs animal.
From there, its amazing to watch kids and adults alike come in with little to no experience, and within just a few months, riding indepenently on a horse. Overnights on the farm are truly special. I love that we can offer a safe space for kiddos to come and enjoy the outside. We get to witness souls come together to laugh, play, learn self reliance, take care of each other and grow through it all. This weekend, the girls slept outside on the lawn or in the tent, immersing themselves further to the outside and sleeping under the stars. We went to bed with the moon and woke up to sunrise, bringing balance into the nervous systems with the circadian rhythm of the sun.
