today is my birthday, and I took the last week off to take a solo trip up California and paint along the way. I've never done anything like this. Life changing ngl. Today I'm home, another new year where celebrating doesn't feel quite right, but nonetheless I feel so grateful to have been able to do this. Here are some pictures of my journey:
1-2. Painting on the coast at Carmel by the Sea right near Tor House. Easy to see why a legacy of landscape painting is so strong in this region
3. 10/10 meal at Stokes Adobe in Monterey Bay. Originally had planned to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium earlier in the day, but got caught up in Carmel by the Sea talking to artists
4-5. Preston Castle in Ione. Shoutout to the locals who helped me trespass. Castle was stunning but driving from here to my airbnb near Colombia was incredible: passed over the Pardee Dam at sunset, followed by a winding road surrounded by green fields and gnarly oaks
6. Sunrise at my campsite in San Miguel
7-8. Painting the rocks off the coast from the Piedras Blancas Light Station after visiting Hearst Castle. Not pictured but I was surrounded by hundreds of elephant seals, some nice entertainment while painting lol
9-10. Incredible sunset at the Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve
11. The beautiful spanish-moss lined trails around Cachuma Lake, stopped on a whim and spent a bit too long here
12. Coldspring Canyon Arch bridge and my first painting, which I was extremely unhappy with but I quickly improved after painting every day. The bridge was stunning and just down the road was fully packed tavern with a bluegrass band. Didn't want to wait in line but enjoyed the music while I painted

also huge thanks to everyone who grabbed a mystery egg! this was my first time selling them and they were a huge success. Will most certainly be making more for future events 🥚
