Families and children are being imprisoned, threatened with separation, and denied basic rights at the reopened Dilley Processing Center in Dilley, Texas.
A new report by Human Rights First and @raicestexas exposes widespread due process violations, inhumane conditions, and lasting physical and psychological harm inflicted on families incarcerated at Dilley.
There is no safe or rights-respecting way to detain families. This system is cruel, coercive, and a direct assault on human dignity. We need to end family detention, permanently.

Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a federal enforcement operation on her way home after dropping her child off at school. This should never have happened.
Across the country, ICE raids are terrorizing communities. Mothers, coworkers, and neighbors are taken from their homes and disappeared into detention, where abuse, dangerous conditions, and deaths are well-documented.
Now the Trump administration wants $3.4 billion more for detentionâon top of the $45 billion already given to ICE last year. This expansion comes without guardrails or accountability, and it will lead to more harm.
We cannot wait for another preventable tragedy.

ICE is using family separation as a weapon at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, threatening parents with losing their children to coerce them into giving up their legal claims.
A new report by Human Rights First and @raicestexas documents how families incarcerated at Dilley are separated within the facility, across detention centers, and in some cases, indefinitely torn apart. These are their stories.

Targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions are some of the most powerful tools States have to hold perpetrators to account. Yet last year saw a sharp decline in their use.
In the United States, for instance, recordâlow use of human rights sanctions coincided with an increasing misuse of sanctions to benefit political allies, alongside an alarmingly high rate of delistings.
Scroll right for highlights of the latest Global Sanctions MidâYear Update, examining developments in the use of targeted human rights and antiâcorruption sanctions across the U.S., UK, EU, Canada, and Australia.

The U.S. has forcibly transferred more than 17,400 people to third countries. Many have no legal or personal ties there. Many face arbitrary detention, family separation, and chain refoulement.
Today, Human Rights First and Refugees International released an update from our Third Country Deportation Watch tracker, exposing the growing scale, secrecy, and human toll of the Trump administration's third country transfer agreements. Learn more at the link in bio.
More than 50 years ago, British soldiers shot and killed five people in West Belfast. The victims included a local priest, a father of six, and three children ages 13, 15, and 16.
A coroner has now concluded they should not have been killed. Justice Scoffield also found that much of the military evidence presented to the inquest was false.
After decades of delay, obstruction, and determination, their families finally have the truth about what happened to their loved ones. Today's findings are a vindication of that long fight.
Human Rights First has worked on Northern Ireland accountability issues since the 1980s. We stand with families still fighting for truth and justice, and we continue to oppose legislative efforts to shut down conflict-related inquests like this one.

Honoured to have worked for years with the Springhill/Westrock families in Belfast in their struggle for the truth about how British soldiers killed their loved ones one night in July 1972.
They were vindicated today in court when a judge ruled that none of the victims posed a threat, and none should have been killed.

Egyptian security agents assaulted Yasin and his younger brother during a peaceful protest on a public sidewalk, dragged them into a diplomatic building, and falsely accused them of assault.
This is transnational repression, and it is happening here at home.
Human Rights First and @humanrightswatch are hosting a briefing on how oppressive governments reach beyond their own borders to silence dissent and intimidate critics, examined through the lens of Egyptâs practices and broader global trends. The session will highlight our legal work on this case and what it means for human rights in the United States.

As we ramp up for Mother's Day, children in this country are being locked up in immigration detention as part of a growing for-profit system funded by our tax dollars.
Our President and CEO Uzra Zeya writes in @ms_magazine about the notorious Dilley Immigration Processing facility, where over 5,600 children and parents have been detained since the Trump administration reopened it in April 2025. The median age of detained children is 7. Some have been held for 180 days or more.
Immigrant families deserve to live their lives in dignity. We must put an end to family detention.
