This is it. This is our story. 50 years ago, Philippe Druillet, Mœbius, and Jean-Pierre Dionnet, a group of revolutionary, brilliant, and young artists, sought to push the boundaries of their chosen art form—"sequential storytelling", "bande dessinée", "comics"—to tell stories that no one else could tell, and that no one else would let them tell. Stories that were liable to influence the realities—waking and otherwise—of their readers. METAL HURLANT was their brainchild, and it took the sci-fi world by storm, crossing oceans, spawning multiple iterations and adaptations, and making ripples that would catalyze the creations of generations of artists to come... Now, screaming through the Universe, the ORIGINAL genre-defining and genre-defying sci-fi graphic anthology is hurtling towards Earth—bold, transgressive, cutting edge...and for the first time in its true form...in English. In 1974, filmmaker, writer, mime, and poet Alejandro Jodorowsky was working in Paris on a film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, with the assistance of the internationally acclaimed artist Mœbius on concept art and storyboards, alongside talents such as H.R. Giger and Dan O’Bannon. At the same time, Mœbius—along with fellow rebellious bande dessinée creators Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Philippe Druillet—wanted to push the boundaries of the comics medium to tell mature, cerebral, and often titillating stories that embraced a punk attitude. Metal Hurlant was their brainchild, a cutting edge comics anthology published under their newly-founded publishing house Les Humanoïdes Associés (Humanoids). The magazine took the sci-fi world by storm, making ripples that would catalyze the creations of generations of artists to come, including filmmakers like Guillermo Del Toro, George Lucas, Hayao Miyazaki, Ridley Scott, Denis Villeneuve, Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Nicolas Winding Refn and musicians like Air, Daft Punk, and Hans Zimmer. While Jodorowsky’s Dune never materialized, he and Mœbius created within the pages of Metal Hurlant the groundbreaking series The Incal, which would go on to become the best-selling sci-fi comic of all time and is currently being adapted for the big screen by Taika Waititi. "STOMPING GROUNDS is about hope and love and change and perseverance. The art is bright and vibrant, but behind all that color is a story about the end of the world and discrimination and authoritarianism, and that’s the kind of storytelling sleight-of-hand that can lift comic art to its highest heights." —LOREN BOUCHARD, Creator of #BobsBurgers STOMPING GROUNDS is LIVE on @kickstarter . Two big-hearted monster adventures. One Kickstarter. Humanoids presents two family-oriented graphic novels for readers who like their adventures huge, heartfelt, and just a little out of control. In STOMPING GROUNDS, the old Earth is gone, overrun by giant alien flora and fauna—and the Shin family still has to get through the day without losing their minds. Bob’s Burgers meets Pacific Rim. From Amit Tishler (Cartoon Network, HBO) & Elliot Sperl (Bob's Burgers, Axe Cop, Animals), illustrated by Sarah Stern (Rick & Morty, Lumberjanes). In KAIJU HEART, Hiro is a young mechanic raised to fear kaiju. Then he saves one. The debut graphic novel from French rising star Touffe. One book brings family chaos in a world gone strange. The other brings an impossible friendship in the midst of war. Both bring mecha-scale adventure and a tear to your eye. PLEDGE TODAY: /projects/humanoidsinc/stomping-grounds-kaiju-heart

Boo-hoo. "H.O.P." by @ugobienvenu . Read the full story in METAL HURLANT ISSUE 4: PARADISE LOST. Out now. ****** Utopia has been chased by sentient beings since the beginning of time. But what is it? Where is it? When? How? This installment of Humanoids’ celebrated genre anthology explores “heaven on earth” (and beyond), and the systems that have made it impossible, illusory, or brief, warping it into its darker dystopian mirror… Inside this 272-page tome: Interviews with filmmaker, documentarian, and “cult” expert Jodi Wille (The Source Family, Welcome Space Brothers), and utopian sci-fi master Kim Stanley Robinson (The Mars Trilogy, Ministry for the Future); a brief glimpse of French legend Tardi, and Polonius, his rare, depraved 44-page work with writer Picaret; and 23 visions of utopias lost and found.

HAUNTED: THE TRUE STORY OF MARY SHELLEY & THE CREATION OF FRANKENSTEIN by Koren Shadmi — FINAL HOURS ON KICKSTARTER "A Shadmi book is as much about personal narrative as it is about the building blocks of their existence. It considers color, sound, and even the very air the people in it lived and breathed. It’s about capturing the spirit of a certain time and place to better understand the men and women at their center." — @comicsbeat Read the full interview here: icsbeat.com/interview-koren-shadmi-adds-mary-shelley-to-his-line-of-graphic-novel-biographies-with-haunted/ Give life to this one of a kind creation, back the project today!
