🐣🥚THE EGG MAG IS OUT THIS WEEKEND 🥚🐣 eggs are the most astonishing, quasi-magical food product we come into contact with every day. And this weekend… maybe also the weirdest? We’ve got @jemimajo hosting a midnight eggstravaganza for 30 in a one-bed; a dreamlike photo essay documenting the making of the world’s biggest omelette; @nicolaalamb on the ridiculous kitchen chemistry you can do with an egg… and more and more and more! Design is a @carloapostoli cracker with @joshklustig leading on the gorgeous photography. If you want to read it… buy it! 🐣

It’s here! And employee of the month @jayrayner1 is calling it the best Christmas special he’s been a part of (he’s seen a few). This weekend’s magazine is a novelty free zone. No new “must-haves”, no recipes with a questionable seasonal twist. Just the country’s leading food and drink experts telling you what their Christmas non-negotiables are, and how to make those few things the best they can be. ⭐️ft. @nigellalawson @jayrayner1 @marinagpoloughlin @timhayward @jancisrobinson @alicelascelles ⭐️ PLUS 🌟 @kitchenbee on Christmas recipe gurus (with cutout and keep recipes included!) ✨Michelle Taylor on her terrible addiction to luxury advent calendars 💫 @nigellalawson ’s gift guide! All thanks to the incredible FT mag team who spent their autumn talking turkey, particularly @carloapostoli @cherishrufus @joshklustig The weather is horrible today. Go out, get the paper and get back into bed. ❄️ Cover by @kennethlam____

Chefs, what are you cooking for friends at the moment? FT readers (or even non-readers!) what restaurant dish are you desperate to recreate? This is not an empty plea for engagement, it’s how I commission our recipe page, where the goal is to find (then rigorously test!) the best things already out there. Today would be a great day to send me a message/leave a comment with suggestions for May-July. Some favourites from the past year…. 🥩 @chef.stuart.ralston ’s beef with sticky rice and pickles, courtesy of @nikiblasina ’s sharp eye for tasty dinner parties 🥚 @boutheina.b.salem ’s egg and tuna brik - suddenly brunch is a bearable concept again 🐔 The crispy chicken and rice from @abccocina , as obsessed over by FT Weekend editor Janine Gibson 🐖 The schnitzel in mustard sauce from everyone’s favourite winter opening, @oneclubrow 🍗 Crispy chicken wings from @smokinggoatbar , probably the most reader-requested recipe I’ve had since we launched this page 🍅 The tomato pasta at @gina.restaurant , which @honeyandco begged me to source so they didn’t bankrupt themselves commuting to Chingford

Very (very!) happy that @nigellalawson will be joining @ft_weekend as a monthly columnist in spring alongside our existing lineup. I can’t say much more without the risk of sounding a bit gushing…Nigella is a brilliant, wise writer on food and on life itself, and the best thing about working on a magazine is having the time and space to publish exactly that sort of writing. April can’t come soon enough! Photo by @wendyhuynh

Seven years ago, before I had anything to do with food media (or much interest in cooking) I got the bus up to London just to go to @ciaosamin ’s book event (by myself) because I had heard her on a podcast and was immediately and totally bought in. So it was brilliant and surreal to spend an afternoon shooting this story with her and her friends (and ours at the FT!) @honeyandco . Featuring recipes from her great new book, Good Things. Link in bio to the feature - with 300 free clicks. Photos by @olaosmit assisted by @martynamily

Attn! 🚨Is somebody close to you suddenly talking about “grind retention” and “coating the burrs”? Have they started muttering about the teachings of a man known only as “Daddy Hoff”? This weekend’s magazine is for all the coffee freaks out there - and for anyone who’d like to better understand why their loved one is now spritzing beans like dainty flowers. Thanks to everyone who made this very fun and hopefully funny mag happen, particularly @carloapostoli for the design that runs all through the mag. @cherishrufus @joshklustig @emma_bowkett @cordeliaj @ftglobetrotter Visit ft.com/thecoffeeissue to see it all - link in bio Cover photo @bandini3000 Illos throughout @patrickschmidt_npt

FT Weekend Festival round up! Honestly it was a very very good time, even if I spent most of it in a fugue state. 1. Me loving my overlords for the day, the great nation of Canada. 2. @timhayward loving @alicelascelles ’s whisky notes 3. Audience loving @rebeccamcrose and @cocoarunners chocolate tasting 4. @jayrayner1 loving (I hope?) hosting the very silly quiz I wrote 5. @ajesh34 NOT loving @melissafood ’s expressive charades 6. People loving wine. Obvs. 7. The Jay Rayner Sextet (some of them) loving the beautiful weather

Attention all designated holiday cooks! This one’s for you, by which I mean us. A dinner party you could make in a rental with blunt knives, wobbly pans and no spice rack. Thanks @dinnerbyben for hosting and for convincing me steak tartare in an Airbnb is a good idea, actually…. Link in my bio. Gorgeous pics @olaosmit as always with help from @martynamily and thanks @mrwmcsweeney for logistics.

Three recommendations for Greece, because who can handle more than that really 1 - in Athens go to @cineparis.athens . We saw Boy on a Dolphin - the first Hollywood film to be shot in Greece. Watching Sophia Loren wandering around the acropolis while looking at the acropolis - just delightful 2 - if you go to Syros stay at @villa_maria_syros and do whatever Kostas tells you to! 3 - take hand luggage, pack light, bring back tins upon tins of olive oil
