Hello NYC! We’re Hudson River Community Sailing, and we wanted to take a minute to reintroduce ourselves as our community keeps growing. ⛵💙
We’re a nonprofit on the Hudson River in Chelsea and Inwood, using sailing as a way to connect people, open doors, and create opportunities. From youth education and internships, to adaptive sailing, to free community days, to member racing and volunteer programs — however you connect with the water, you’ll find a welcoming crew at HRCS. (Slide design by @violetsnikulin , DevComm intern at HRCS!)
🌊 GET READY FOR THE SHOWCASE! 🎬
We’re so happy to share that after receiving a whopping 194 submissions, an outstanding group of films have emerged and been selected (more on them soon) ✨
Join us for a waterfront evening of youth films at the Pier 66 Boathouse, along the Hudson River 🌅
Starting at 7pm, enjoy pre-screening experiences throughout the boathouse, including “field stations” of NYC youth films and a participatory “Ocean Pledge,” before the main screening begins at 8pm.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the blessing and launch of the Opti boats our students in Chelsea and Inwood built over the winter! Baby Shark, Catch My Drift, Lapras, and Maria — a new RIB generously donated by board member Michael Kurtz — officially launched into the Hudson.
Students also transformed the pier into a showcase of their work, sharing hands-on STEM projects with families and guests, including robotics demonstrations, marine debris research, and other environmental science projects developed throughout the season.
Thank you to all the families who attended, and to the staff, volunteers, and community members who make this event possible each year. And a special thank you to the @hudsonriverpark Trust for supporting the event and bringing a face painter who helped make the day even more memorable for our students and families.
A lot of work has been happening out on the mooring field this spring. Our Operations team installed new helical moorings last week — an important update as we continue adapting to a changing river landscape.
Between the ice conditions this winter and ongoing impacts from the Gateway Project, we needed to rethink parts of the field to create more space and flexibility for our fleet. These new moorings will give our boats more room to move safely, especially when tides and currents get tricky.
Big thanks to the all star Ops team for the long days, problem solving, and heavy lifting that keep us sailing!
TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! There’s still time to join us at Dark ’n Stormy with a limited number of tickets still available.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make this event such a success already, and especially excited to welcome a new sponsor this year: our neighbors at The Yacht Club.
Many in our community already know it as one of the best spots to catch the racing on the Hudson. The Yacht Club is a rooftop destination for pristine seafood, cocktails, and celebration, with sweeping waterfront views, indoor and outdoor dining, and a true spirit of maritime adventure.
We can’t wait to celebrate with this community on the water tonight.
And finally, revisiting our gold ticket prizes! Get your raffle tix before online sales end tomorrow, Monday, May11th at 12pm EST! We also want to take a moment to thank all who donated to this year’s raffle. HRCS is in a year of transition and are going full speed ahead so your support means more than ever.
DNS IS TOMORROW! Can’t make it? You can still get your raffle tickets online. Don’t wait - online sales end tomorrow, Monday, May 11th at NOON EST! Thank you to all who made this the best raffle yet!
RAFFLE / silver ticket prizes! Tomorrow is Dark ‘N Stormy! Take a look at our amazing raffle. It’s not too late to get tickets online. Check out the link in our bio - you don’t have to be present at the event to win! Online sails will end TOMORROW, Monday May 11th at 12:00PM EST!
We’re excited to welcome @mpbags as a new sponsor of this year’s Dark ’n’ Stormy!
This year, they’ve generously donated a Delancey bag as a raffle prize to support Hudson River Community Sailing’s youth and adaptive programs. And even if you aren’t the lucky winner of that prize, you’ll still be going home with a bit of Manhattan Portage. Every Dark ’n’ Stormy attendee will receive a special Manhattan Portage city skyline coin purse. Swipe to take a look at both the Delancey bag and coin purse.
We’re grateful for their support and excited to have another NYC-rooted organization join our community on the waterfront.
See you May 11 at the Frying Pan. Tickets in bio.
Yesterday, we officially closed down our Inwood location ahead of the construction start.
From a small space tucked at the end of Dyckman Street, we built something lasting. Each year, more than 100 middle school students stepped into a multi-year afterschool program that grew alongside them. We launched our adaptive sailing program here, serving more than 200 adaptive participants in 2025. Last summer, over 300 community members joined us on the water for free sailing, and hundreds more found their way to the river through lessons, camp, and membership.
We are deeply grateful to the Inwood community for welcoming us and trusting us. What a joy it has been to welcome so many students, sailors, and families onto the water, and to share in their growth, their confidence, and their connection to this place.
This chapter is closing, but the impact of this community will carry forward in everything we do.
We will continue working with our Inwood school partners and students, and we look forward to sharing more soon about our adaptive programming plans. For now, we wanted to take a moment to recognize the loss of this special place.
You can stay updated at Dyckmanmarina.org. It is important that spaces like these are available to New Yorkers. We hope to be back there before long.
Last Friday, HRCS was proud to stand alongside City Council Majority Leader @cmshaunabreu , Congressman @repespaillat , Brad Hoylman-Sigel @manhattanbp , and a coalition of community partners including @waterfrontalliance to rally for waterfront access at the West Harlem Piers.
We hope to bring our model of community sailing and youth development to Harlem.
“These waterways are our classrooms and our parklands, and a unique environment for growth and connection,” said HRCS Executive Director Robert Burke. “But the community in Harlem has been cut off from its waterways. We need the city to help us create this access for public school students and New Yorkers of all abilities.”
Calling EVERYONE! Come join us at Pier 66 next weekend for an extra special Return to River! This year we are celebrating with both Inwood and Chelsea opti launches. Family sails are booked up but there is plenty going on off the water! We are excited to have @hudsonriverpark Trust join us for the day. Please stop by for boat blessings, launches, and educational and activity stations on the pier!
