These structures are not created in a vacuum. Everyone searches for meaning, and the desperation behind that search is vulnerable to extortion when we culturally scoff at and turn a blind eye to religions outside the mainstream.
Rest in peace and in solidarity to all of those who have been taken advantage of or abused in their search for human belonging, whether it has been at the hands of a trusted figurehead or an impersonal, imperial government.
