Last Saturday, HSR witnessed another heartwarming event: a Visarjana pooja for respectfully releasing old religious images and idols. This ceremony also served as a delightful exchange, where pre-owned items were given a second life, transforming what could have been waste into cherished possessions.

Putting non-recyclable plastic covers into plastic bottles is not a good practice because it only hides the plastic waste instead of solving the problem. The plastic can still harm the environment in the future. Reducing plastic use and proper recycling are better solutions. #balajitheasura #climateaction #sustainableliving

As 'Compost Awareness Week' 3-9 May draws to a close, we present you with something special - a glimpse of ordinary residents who took the challenge to begin composting at home and came up with extraordinary results! Our earlier composting series featured stalwarts who are experts. This group represents people like you and me, most neither stalwarts nor experts when they started, but for sure, are good at it today and constantly encouraging others to start composting. In our latest reel, you will meet a small fraction of our team spread across many cities of India. All of them enjoy composting. Most agree it is magical, even therapeutic. Once a compost addict, you can never stop composting! Some reasons we hear from those who don’t compost – it is difficult, it smells, it takes too much space and time… But our champions will tell you that these concerns are really nothing to worry about. Stay tuned for another series about the issues and simple solutions that can set you on the road to successful composting. Thank you Abhilash, Akshata, Anish, Anshu, Aparna, Ashwin, Asmita, Balasubramanian, Bhanumathi, Bidyut, Gayathri, Kavita, Kavitha, Lalitha, Lalithamba, Marisa, Neelima, Nilima, Odette, Srinivasan, Parul, Preetha & Suresh, Sarada & Ramesh, Savitha, Snehashri, Shaila, Shailendra, Shobha, Shree, Smita, Srilakshmi, Vachana, Vasanthi, and Vrinda, our composting addicts from Team BB, for sharing pictures of your composters and your compost. We are sure this will inspire many more to start composting. And we will all be doing our Mother Earth a favour, turning wet waste into fertile manure that enriches her soil! #InternationalCompostAwarenessWeek #ecowarriors #compostaddict #Composting #BlackGold BeautifulBharat BeTheChange

Grateful for the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas with Vashuki sir and Ashwin at Swachgreha Kalika Kendra, HSR Layout, Bangalore. Hearing their journey of composting and waste management up close was not just insightful, but deeply inspiring. It’s always powerful to connect with people who share the same energy, passion, and vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future. These conversations remind me that real change is happening on the ground—through consistent efforts, community action, and people who truly care. Looking forward to taking these learnings forward and building stronger collaborations for impact. #WasteManagement #Composting #Sustainability #ClimateAction #circulareconomy

Beautiful cement ring composters - painted by corporate employees, college students, school children and our @swachagrahakalikakendra volunteers. With the rains, the compost piles are hot as well as cold and composting is happening quickly. Each composter has its own advantages and disadvantages and we love all of them. Please visit any day between 8am to 1 pm to learn, adopt and lead in your own local area

Part 2: Drop box for used clothes - No under garments, no soiled or wet clothes - Only dry reusable clothes Having a drop box for used clothes at every community, institution, organization helps in diverting used clothes from going to landfill. If they are added to the garbage vehicle, they may become dirty and cannot be reused or recycled. The clothes in drop box can reach textile recovery facility and will get sorted into white cotton, colour cotton vs all other mixed material. They also run a preloved / thrift store. Note: lot of clothes given to poor families like maid, construction workers does not get used and end up in landfill. A study shows 70% of used clothes handed over to poor are not used and end up in landfill. A monitored drop box for used clothes is a must in every community.
