Here are a few more finished pieces from students this semester. These are a mix of my students from TCC and Dallas College, ceramics 1 & 2 students. Per usual as of late I've had my Tiki Mug Pinch Pot project to start off my beginners. This year I had some fun fandoms covered (Beetlejuice, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Pokemon, and The Hunger Games to mention a few). I love being impressed by what some of these students are able to make when I give them a prompt like that. Additionally I started my advanced students off with a Deconstructing Function project where we discussed pushing the boundaries of function in favor of sculptural ideas and concepts. There were some great historic coil pots made as well as quite a few wonderful explorations of stemware. A few of my advanced students even made time for further explorations and delved into form, construction, and glaze experimentation. #ceramics #pottery #ceramicteacher #TCCNE #DallasCollegeCeramics

Reflecting on a semester of growth at Dallas College. 🎓✨ This term, I challenged my students to think beyond the basic vessel. We explored: Fandom & Form: Pinch pot Tiki mugs. Scale & Perception: Custom stemware designs. Sculptural Intent: Deconstructed functional pieces. Conceptual Depth: Interpreting the theme "Elevated." The dedication to the craft this semester was truly impressive. Enjoy this gallery of student work! 👏 #FineArt #Ceramics #ArtTeacher #DallasCollegeArt #ClayLife

ABT ...always be testing. Pulled a couple of these tests from the college kiln today. Got some good info about this group and our firing cycles. #copperred #testesttest #testtiles #ceramics #pottery

Studio time this weekend ment prepping as much reclaimed porcelain as I could fit into the drying racks and then moving on to some glaze amd surface tests before returning to claybody testing to fill the time until my porcelain gets to a workable state. Hope you're all enjoying thelis beautiful spring day. #ceramics #claytests #reclaimedclay #studioceramics #testtesttest

Fog hangs in the air, A damp hush falls on the woods, Hiding what is near. Dew clings to the grass, Sky and land meet in the haze, Dripping from the branch. White glaze, soft and deep, Trapping spirit in the clay, Atmosphere held still. Yunomis from the recent Brookhaven wood fire. #ceramic #woodfire #pottery #shino #hpbloomer

I finally got around to photographing and editing some work that was made last month for the wood fire at Brookhaven. The first 7 pieces made into the kiln while the last three were fired into ^10 oxidation. I saw a great opportunity a long time ago to make work that could be put in any kiln and in a variety of firings. While I definitely have an affinity for porcelain in wood/soda I have really enjoyed these stoneware pieces. I am looking forward to making more of these tower jars with landscape stands as well as some of the other assembled component pieces which I am drawing on both historical and architectural forms for source material. I really like this grouping of work and think that there is a lot to work with here. Its refreshing to see new avenues unfold in front of you as you continue to make through slumps. Experimentation and play are so important in the studio and I cant tell you how good it feels to see some new work. #ceramics #pottery #woodfire #hpbloomer #handmade

Looks like we had a pretty successful woodfire at Brookhaven. Here are a few of my pieces that we unloaded this morning. All of these are stoneware fired to ^9-11. I am amazed at some of the fantastic surfaces I got out of this. My colored slips performed better than expected as did some of my more historical chun vases and sculptural platforms. #woodfire #woodkiln #ceramics #hpbloomer #pottery

In thinking about how we ask nature to conform to us. In thinking about imposing our geometries on the natural systems. In consideration of being where we are and acknowledging our actions have consequences. In mindful meditation on our relationships with the land around us and how we can change minds, actions, and outcomes. A performance for myself. A record that the bees will not notice. A action that contains both the absurd and profound. Lost in my head this afternoon after listening to my colleagues talk about their work at a faculty exhibition. We are the garden we nurture.

The confusion over the Farmworkers holiday yesterday gave me a little time to whip out a few larger pieces for a upcoming woodfire next week here at Brookhaven. Having all of the historical pots from my students coul building projects fresh on my mind obviously influenced some of the forms I made. Its been a hot minute since I've made any bottles. So to have the chance to make a few that draw upon historical references was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing them out of the kiln in a few weeks. #stoneware #pottery #dallascollegeceramics #hpbloomer
