Taking the courageous leap of posting to grid in service of random image vibes and shameless self promotion for the near arrival of our friend @hover.ist who will be playing here in Lansing next week. On Thursday, May 21st @vadurodrigues has an amazing solo exhibition opening @struk_studio showcasing his fantastic body of work from his time at MSU. We decided to collaborate by joining forces and bringing music to the opening. The art opening starts at 5, but at 7 I’ll be joined by @cephalopodd_creations to kick things off for a short flirtation between water, melody, song and prose with a @dragon.lake set. Then the formidable @joshuabartonmusic (MSU Library zine curator and local Lansing DIY music legend) will bestow upon us his musical wisdoms. Finally, @hover.ist will harken first contact by way of beats and rhythms from the deep depths of Elysian Valley, Los Angeles. It will be a great win for art, music, and friendship. Feel free to bring friends and we will see ya there!

Image Research is excited to present a new suite of songs from label stalwart, @hover.ist . As one of IR’s founding releases in 2021, ‘Universal Veil’ set the tone with its timeless soundscapes and displaced electronics, embedded in a deep love and appreciation for 90’s IDM. Flash forward to ‘Expansion Chamber’, the newest offering from the producer which dials in a more rhythmic approach to an already expansive and rich palette. Where ‘Universal Veil’ covers like a warm blanket, ‘Expansion Chamber’ cuts like a knife with a sheen of precision and attention to detail. Genre-bending with fluidity and poise to astonishing results. There is an uplifting clarity to each of the 4 tracks, that unfold deeply and differently with each listen. Clockwork percussion, emotive synth-work, and an endless supply of chopped and refracted acid sequences combine to entrance and catapult physical movement.
