It’s not often I get to design a book cover. So I was honoured to be asked by poet @naomijaffa to create the cover for her first full collection of poetry #FlyingChange
It is based on a truly wonderful painting ‘Requiem’ by #HannahGluckstein (better known as #Gluck) of a young sparrow which is so full of life even in death.
It also perfectly captures the book’s title - a term in dressage where a horse changes its leading legs in mid-air.
Thus it was a delight to hear these poems performed live at the book launch @thecutartscentre last night swipe 👈 for photos.

The illustration style required takes the form of elegant, fluid, linear drawings of the human body in various poses, created using a brush and ink technique (see early sketches in photo). The artworks will be used on packaging and promotional materials. This is a paid commission; with the project taking place during May and June 2026. 🖌️

Bert was delighted to be invited to see a work-in-progress performance of ‘From Grit to High Rise’, charting the rise and fall of St Peters Court in Lowestoft and the ups and downs of the people who lived there.
Through original songs and poetry created by @deanparkinpoet and with support from a stellar team of local artists, it’s a beautiful reminder of how important community is. There were laughs, tears and lots of love in room - and the world could certainly do with a bit more of that at the moment. ❤️
And the logotype we designed looked the part too 😎

Suffolk is the place @houseofbert_ calls home.
It is also the county of the port of Felixstowe, where shipping containers from across the world - including those of the Evergreen Marine Corporation - are stacked in enormous numbers.
Rising like a forest of luscious evergreens, the trees traditionally used as the centrepiece of our seasonal decorations.
This screen print (and reel) is inspired by these monolithic containers and mighty firs. To wish you all an evergreen Christmas.
