There was something about this moment that stopped me in my tracks. Helping my daughter get ready for her first dance recital felt so familiar in the most emotional way — like I had suddenly stepped into my mother’s shoes. My mom used to do this for me before my own recitals, calming my nerves, applying my makeup, (I remember the blue Christian Dior eye shadow she used to use and the gorgeous 💋lipstick she used to meticulously apply), fixing the tiny details, reminding me I could do hard things. And this time, I got to be that person for her. Watching her work through her fear and find her confidence was one of the most special moments of motherhood I’ve experienced so far. P.S. If you look closely, you’ll see a photo of my mom behind us 🤍 A quiet reminder that motherhood carries through generations in ways both big and small.
