At House & Hem, we source many of our brands from the Nordics—Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland—as a nod to my own heritage. Our family was set to move from Connecticut to Stockholm this summer too, as an added bonus, but life had other plans. Still, that gave me the inspiration to start House & Hem, a gentle general store that blends New England charm with Scandinavian minimalism. It captures the style and aesthetic I’ve grown up with and always loved as an editor: The charm of gingham, florals and stripes combined with the clean minimalism and quiet beauty of the coastline and my Nordic heritage (the “hem” in our name is Swedish for “home”).
