“In Peles Duo’s new sculpture-painting ‘mess and memory (Ciamberlano) II’, Cybelle’s eyes meet the open mouth from Luca Ciamberlano’s engraving, a threshold of the body and entry point of the artwork. In ‘tool of tools (our hands)’, hands reach out over each other to point, fingers ready to pinch. Both artists take turns in applying layers of paint on jesmonite, and in the collaborative process of painting, they share personal intimacy offered by the individualistic medium. Folding the world into the cracks in the material, over the artist’s own body fragments, and photographic prints, their hands become tools alongside the other elements of the painting: declarative but also sensual, portals to an emotional subtlety.”

So pleased to present with @huntkastner the first exhibition in the Czech Republic of the Berlin-based artists Peles Duo, which was founded in 2005 in Frankfurt (formerly as Peles Empire) by Katharina Stöver and Barbara Wolff. Situated between the figures of mythology, cultural hybridity and technology of the copy, Peles Duo will present a new site specific response to their work - together with a premiere of the new film made in collaboration with artist Robert Crosse. Peles duo (formerly peles empire) consisting of Barbara Wolff and Katharina Stöver began their collaboration by opening an illegal bar in frankfurt’s red light district. Peles Duo takes both its material and its name from the Romanian castle of Peleș, built in 1883. They have been also running exhibition spaces as part of their practice in different locations ever since (london (2005–2013), cluj, istanbul, los angeles and berlin (from 2016 onwards).
Prag merkezli bağımsız küratör ve yazar Dr Hana Janečková 25 Mart Çarşamba günü saat 18.00’de SAHA Studio bir konuşma gerçekleştiriyor. Sunumunda küratöryel pratik ile beden politikasına ilişkin soruları iç içe geçirerek bedensel deneyimin sergi formatlarını bağlamsal ve epistemik açılardan nasıl biçimlendirdiğini ve inşa ettiğini sorguya açıyor.
Çalışmalarında bedenlerin farklı mecralar aracılığıyla bir araya gelme süreçlerinin nasıl hem iş birlikçi hem de eleştirel konumlar oluşturduğunu inceleyen Janečková, bu süreçlerin kurumsal çerçevelere nasıl meydan okuduğunu ve beden politikalarının günümüzde çağdaş sanatın anlamlandırılma ve okunma biçimlerini nasıl belirlediğini araştırıyor.

Prague-based independent curator and writer Dr Hana Janečková will give a talk at SAHA Studio on Wednesday, March 25 at 6pm. In her presentation, she brings together curatorial practice and questions of the politics of the body to examine how embodied experience mark and build exhibition formats in both contextual and epistemic terms.
In her projects, Janečková explores how the processes through which bodies come together across different media generate both collaborative and critical positions. She also investigates how these processes challenge institutional frameworks and how body politics shape the ways contemporary art is interpreted and understood today.

Hana Janečková: Remediace extraktivismu (Kurátorství jako kritika i spolupráce v současném umění)

V letním semestru bude první přednáška z cyklu Čelem k umění a designu patřit kurátorce, autorce a kulturní teoretičce Dr. Haně Janečkové, která působí jako odborná asistentka na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze. Ve svém výzkumu se zaměřuje na současné umění v globálních souvislostech, vztahy mezi uměním, přírodou, technologiemi a identitou. Byla kurátorkou českého pavilonu na Benátském bienále 2024 a podílí se na projektu Socialistický antropocén (UCL Londýn).
Přednáška se zaměří na kurátorské strategie práce s extraktivismem, kolonialitou a dekolonialitou ve střední a východní Evropě. Na příkladech (včetně projektu Srdce žirafy v zajetí je o dvanáct kilo lehčí) bude zkoumat, jak současné umění pracuje s politicky citlivými tématy a jaké má kurátorství možnosti v době „vaporwave“ mezi rozpadem a novou politickou imaginací.

Jak porota Ceny Jindřicha Chalupeckého 2026 zhodnotila letošní ročník a co konkrétně ocenila?
Vedle Yuliye Bokhan, Terezy Kalousové a Kolektivu Prádelna, které se staly letošními laureátkami, udělila mezinárodní porota ještě speciální uznání iniciativě Stop genocidě v Gaze za důležité politické poselství a etický rozměr jejich aktivit, které reagují na mlčení většiny kulturních institucí a českých médií tváří v tvář genocidě v Gaze.
Porota zmínila dosud nejvyšší počet přihlášených i rozmanitost tvůrčích přístupů, zároveň vyzvala k přihlášení umělce a umělkyně zabývající se performanci, inovativními experimenty s uměleckými médii a pracující s pohyblivým obrazem. Jeho členstvo, Dino Siwek a Camilla Cardoso, mluví o významu umění a transformativního vzdělávání tváří v tvář současné ekologické, sociální a spirituální polykrizi.
