A wee update about Ryan’s funeral. Some have been asking about bringing flowers on the day. The family have requested that it is family flowers only so rather than spending money on flowers, we would love it if instead you maybe donate something to a charity, meet up with a friend, look out for others or enjoy taking some time to do something for yourself. Let’s keep his big heart alive! Xx
The funeral and memorial for our friend and colleague Ryan Glen will take place at The Steeple Church on Tuesday 5th May at 2.30pm and then back to Hot Chocolate for ‘Ryan’s last session’ – to have some refreshments, chat, reflect, share stories, celebrate his life and hang out together in a place that was very special to him. Anyone who knew or was impacted by Ryan is very welcome (all ages).
The family have requested that everybody wear comfy clothes, as Ryan would have wanted everyone to just be themselves. If you like you can wear blue and/or a band t-shirt, to represent Ryan’s love of music.
Please be aware there will be no youth work open session in the evening.
Many of you will have already heard but it is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ryan Glen. Ryan has been a huge part of the Hot Chocolate family for almost 25 years - as a young person, as a youth worker and as our friend. He was funny, compassionate, kind, and somehow both very gentle and very loud! We have so many memories of all his antics - bringing laughter and joy wherever he went, as well as going out of his way to help others. He truly was a remarkable youth worker. We are so privileged to have shared so much of life and work together and will miss him dearly.
We have made the decision to pause our youth work this week so we can take care of each other as a team as we come to terms with this loss. We will be back for session on Thursday 30 April, and youth workers will be in touch re groups and 1-1s. In the meantime if you need support, there are some useful numbers below.
We hope to share details of his memorial soon.
