Oakley was part of our family for more than 17 yearsā¦and the moment his pain ended, ours quietly began.
The house feels different now.
No more snoring in the background.
No more paws racing down the hallway.
No more slipping out the door only to find him out in the pasture.
No more always being right underfoot.
No more messy meals to clean up.
Instead, itās the memories that fill the space.
Like the time he broke his leg and still ran full speedācast and all.
Or when he took in those three orphaned kittens, laying beside them, letting them nurse as if they were his own. Weād laugh and say, āOakleyā¦youāre not a cat. Youāre a dog⦠and youāre a boy.ā
He was never demanding. Rarely barked. Never growled.
He just met life as it cameāsteady, gentle, and contentāeven at the very end.
Iām sitting here with tears I canāt hold back, but also with deep gratitude. He had a good life. I truly believe that.
And while I donāt have all the answers, I hold onto this: God knows how much I loved him. And if He cares that deeply for us, I trust He understands the longing too.
So I choose to believeā¦that one day, somehow, Iāll see Oakley again.
