The fourth iteration of the Yale Model African Union Conference was a balanced experience of learning, debating, networking and of course, fun.
It was a simulation of the African Union, where students from across Africa are assigned delegates of different countries into the various committees of the AU, to deliberate on issues and propose resolutions if passed by the majority, are then sent to the actual African Union.
During the entire conference, I served as the Delegate of Somalia in the Committee of Economic Development, Industry and Trade, where I had meaning discussions with fellow delegates on issues around Industrialization and Climate goals in Africa, as well as Regional Trade.
The African Leadership University @alueducation was well represented as we bagged ten delegation awards in expression of our outstanding delegation and well rounded leadership.
It was an Amazon experience for not just myself, but every delegate and many thanks to the #ymau team for an incredible initiative aimed at raising young African leaders who are not just grounded in Africas issues, but take active part in creating solutions.

We received some Nigerian delegates this week from various health and nutrition Commissions and Ministries in Nigeria on their study visit for Rwandas Child Protection Policies and Food security and Nutrition services development for children.
It’s amazing how Rwanda, through the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion and the National Child Development Agency, has successfully decentralized its child protection interventions and programs such that it takes effect down to the village level.
We are hoping to also have the opportunity of learning from the policies and programs of my home country, Nigeria as well.
PS: I didn’t meet anyone from Lagos though, but I met really powerful people.
