What an incredible journey this has been.
We came home with bronze, but this was never just about a medal. This was about 24 Indigenous women coming together from different communities, different backgrounds, and becoming sisters. The laughs, the tears, the battles, the ceremonies, the bus rides, and the moments before puck drop are the memories that will stay with us forever.
There were times through this tournament where it wouldâve been easy to lose sight of things. Long days, little sleep, and grinding away cutting video while trying to do everything possible to help this team succeed. But every second was worth it for this group.
Thank you to Alex
@allexandra.rae for giving me the opportunity to be part of something so special and allowing me to support this team. It was also amazing working alongside Jade
@ridgepeakhockey and learning from her leadership, knowledge, and expertise throughout this journey.
A huge thank you to my family, my wife, and my kids for all of the love and support throughout this experience. Being away from home isnât always easy, and I couldnât have done this without you holding things down and supporting me every step of the way. â¤ď¸
This tournament showed something bigger than hockey. It showed the strength of Indigenous women, the power of culture, and what can happen when people come together as one. We represented our families, our communities, our Nations, and our ancestors every single time we stepped on the ice.
A huge thank you as well to the Aboriginal Sport Circle and Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council for continuing to create opportunities and pathways for Indigenous youth through sport. Events like the NAHC give these athletes a platform to showcase their talents, represent where they come from with pride, and inspire the next generation coming behind them.
The future of Indigenous womenâs hockey across Turtle Island is bright â and after this week, I truly believe we are only getting started. â¤ď¸đĽ
