Goods vehicles already account for up to 30% of traffic in the West End and commercial traffic is predicted to increase in the future.
By all West End businesses using the same provider for recycling and waste, the West End can benefit from fewer vehicles and better air quality, too.
Veolia and Westminster City Council’s (WCC) Commercial Waste Services offers HOLBA members a 10% discount on waste and 20% discount on recycling services. The fleet is predominantly electric and powered by the waste they collect.
Latest impact report from our members ^
We met with Paul Grey, Deputy Director of the @NationalGallery , to give us a tour of their new Sainsbury Wing.
As one of the most iconic galleries in the world, it's an incredible example of how museums and heritage buildings can navigate challenges while innovating and building responsibly:
🌱 Reduced energy and water use
♻️ Recycled over 4 tonnes of material
⚡ Upgraded M&E systems for greater efficiency
💎 Replaced dark glass with clear, recycled glass to brighten galleries while protecting masterpieces
The team is on track to achieve BREEAM Excellence, the leading global standard for sustainable building design, along with all original sustainability targets.

🤝 Working together to keep our streets safe. Last week we joined @metpolice_uk@holbid@mylocalbobby@saferbusinessnetwork to carry out a joint deployment across the West End, Chinatown and Covent Garden 📌
The team made an arrest for immigration offences 🚲 issued warnings for cycling on the public highway 🔍 carried out drug searches 💙 supported vulnerable individuals and provided crime-prevention advice to local businesses.
✨ This partnership approach helps us maintain cleaner, safer and more welcoming streets for residents, local businesses and visitors

We're here, because they were there.
On the 8 May in 1945, Victory in Europe was celebrated – marking the end of the Second World War.
Piccadilly Circus was one of the key sites of celebration with journalist Stewart MacPherson reporting that there was ‘a terrific throng of people’ celebrating.
It was a poignant moment in time where the streets were flooded with music, dance and partying. As referenced – by Joyce Digney, who was pictured dancing in the fountains at Trafalgar Square:
‘We walked all over London, and unless you were there, you could not believe the euphoria; hugs, kisses, smiles and laughter. It was like a gigantic family coming together.’ —Joyce Digney #VictoryInEurope #PiccadillyCircus #WW2Memories #HistoricalCelebration
