Jean Renoir once said, “The awful thing about life is this: everyone has their reasons.”
However, when those reasons align and work towards the same goals, oh man, the fun begins. Our creative process in developing Scratching the Surface is purely collaborative. As a team, but also as individuals, we grow with each mutual interaction. By aligning our reasons, we can open communication, exchange ideas, share expertise and experiences, and work in synchronicity through the unknown prospects of the process.
Having a direction and a strong premise to capture the reasons behind individual motives can be a recipe not only for strong team-building but also for solid storytelling. From the beginning, we aimed to tell the story of an artist who, when confronted by AI, embarks on a journey to find her own relevance in the digital world. But as we go further, we keep discovering more about it.
For us at Open Matter Studio, building a multifaceted project like Scratching the Surface is crucial. We need a creative team with a complementary understanding of the motives behind the story.
In the current development state, our team consists of
@line.hoven , our heroine and the soul of the story;
@hmspl.de , the driving force of production; Samantha King, our narrative mentor; and
@wiktor_filip_gacparski and
@alexanderkmettin at Open Matter Studio, the directorial and executive heart of the project.
Over the last year, Scratching the Surface has grown deep roots in the rich soil of network and creative potential. Very soon, it will be ready to grow upwards, through the creative layers of active production. We promise to share this journey with you.
That wouldn’t be possible without the trust and financial support from
@moinfilmfoerderung and their awesome NEST program, as well as the fantastic XR lab incubator at
@cphdox
Following Roy Lichtenstein’s words „The importance of art is in the process of doing it.“ Thank you all for supporting us and believing in Scratching the Surface.
