This Mother’s Day, as we honor moms and all the many ways motherhood shows up in our lives, we also want to recognize that May is Maternal Mental Health Month. Motherhood can be joyful, loving, and deeply meaningful - but it can also be messy, overwhelming, and hard. One in five pregnant or postpartum people experiences a diagnosed mood or anxiety disorder, making depression the most common complication related to childbearing. These perinatal mental health conditions can impact the health and wellbeing of parents, infants, and entire families. By investing in training and workforce development, we can better support Montana moms and babies, helping ensure the strongest possible start for our youngest residents. Happy Mother’s Day, and if you’d like to learn more about how to support moms and maternal mental health in Montana, visit hmhb-mt.org. #MothersDay #MaternalMentalHealth #MaternalMentalHealthMonth #MMHMonth #PerinatalMentalHealth

Today on the HMHB Blog... HMHB Storytelling Coordinator Gwyneth Hyndman shares reflections on how Mother’s Day will feel different this year following the loss of her mother. In her words: “May this Sunday be the port you need. One of rest, grace, reflection, heavy blankets, birdsong, forgiveness, strong coffee with real cream, sunlight on your eyelids, and if you need it, an Olympic-sized pool to swim through.” Thank you, Gwyneth, for your tender and beautiful reflection. As Mother’s Day weekend approaches, we’re holding space for the many emotions this day can carry. We wish you gentleness and care this weekend, whatever Mother’s Day means for you. 🔗Read here: hmhb-mt.org/blog #MothersDay #GriefAndLoss #Motherhood #HealingThroughStorytelling

Thank you for joining us this week as we've celebrated the life-changing impact of home visiting! We've loved sharing stories of home visitors and families who have benefitted from home visiting in Montana. “I said yes to home visiting because I was a first-time parent and wanted all of the support I could have. I continue to say yes because the information and perspective shared have positively shaped my ability to be the best parent I can be." The Doula Bill (SB 319) passed. The Governor signed it. Montana was supposed to join 24 other states reimbursing doulas through Medicaid. Then DPHHS said they weren’t moving forward. Three weeks later, after a legislative inquiry, they reversed course. This is how optional benefits disappear: not with a vote, but with a quiet administrative pause that holds until someone pushes back. New piece on what happened, why it matters, and what I’m watching next. Link in bio.

As we wrap up National Home Visiting Week, we’re sharing Selene’s story. Selene connected with home visiting during her pregnancy. Now, as she raises her six-month-old daughter, Delia, she reflects on the trust and support she’s found along the way. “At first, I didn’t know if I wanted to continue. But the more I got to know Meredith, the easier it became to open up.” From navigating birth without her mom to gaining confidence as a new parent, Selene found care that met her where she was, without judgment. “It really brought out the best in me.” Thank you for following along this week as we’ve celebrated home visiting across Montana. April 20 – 24 is National Home Visiting Week. This week, we’re sharing stories of why real Montana families said yes to home visiting. “I needed some guidance as a first-time mom. I didn’t have the support of my family, and my husband’s family doesn’t live in Montana. This experience has meant so much to me, and I would recommend it to anyone who is even a little bit interested. It was something I never knew I needed—but now I can’t imagine doing this without it.” Learn more about home visiting in Montana: hmhb-mt.org/homevisiting Find options in your community and see how this support can make a difference. #HomeVisitingWeek #MontanaFamilies #StrongerFamiliesMT #MontanaHomeVisiting #NHVW #NationalHomeVisitingWeek #NHVW2026 #HomeVisitingWorks #HomeVisitingHeroes
