Hannah began her DofE at a time when she was struggling to come to terms with her disability.
“I rarely let myself near a wheelchair, as I was determined not to feel different from my friends and family.”
Hannah and her group adapted their expedition to suit her, and this involved using a wheelchair along towpaths where her friends would take it in turns to push – then on the route back, they steered a canal boat back down the river 🛶
“We had to learn so many new skills, from controlling the boat to passing through a lock. But the great thing about DofE is that it can take whatever form you want.”
Hannah’s story is an inspiration for many young people and we’re so grateful to have her supporting DofE 💜
