Ten years ago in May 2016 four befriended Hamburg graffiti and hip hop activists met to start a project which would not only bring the best book on a city’s graffiti origins to life but also created an unexpected positive aftermath. FLASHBACK – Die Chronik 2016–2026 tells the interesting story of the 560-paged tome EINE STADT WIRD BUNT. and how it celebrated the local scene in various following events.
In three main chapters FLASHBACK meticulously retraces the main idea from a successful crowdfounding campaign (that allowed 200 extra pages), following exhibitions, the creation of an app to the hosting of the TAG Conference and the UNLOCK Book Fair in 2023, a podcast series and the final Jam in December 2025.
The impact the book and the outstanding two year exhibition at the Museum for Hamburg History had, is told on 320 pages with over 650 photos including yet unpublished 1980s gems in a once again brilliant quality. Interviews with the publishers and supporters give insight into the realization process as well as the importance only a print publication can have when executed properly by experts in the field. QR codes allow to relive several talks and discussions which were held during the exhibit.

TARIF is a German writer based in North Rhine-Westphalia who started in the early 2010s. Besides being active on trains and walls of his hometown he soon discovered freight trains as a playing field and made a name for himself on the European cargo scene in the last years as well.
In Das Game ist kein Spiel (the game is not just a game) for the first time ever he published a print publication of his work. Due to certain circumstances he was forced to switch to an analogue camera in the beginning of 2024 and instantly fell in love with the aesthetics of the outcomes. During the next months he kept the camera and captured tunnel and train line pieces, tags, freights, throw-ups, or common trains in the analogue way.
The refreshing designed softcover book focuses this time period until 2025 and also features action photos and atmospheric shots from Germany, Belgium and France on 124 pages. With an approximate half trains and half walls the publication gives a good insight into his activities over the past two years. Each of the limited to 100 copies books is hand numbered and signed by TARIF who also added a little introduction.
