Umeda has been recognized as one of the leading figures of the Japanese avant-garde art scene. Since the launch of his company S20, his subtle yet uncompromising dance pieces have toured around the world with performances in over 150 cities in 40 countries!
His work is acknowledged for its highly holistic artistic methodology with a strong focus on digital design, which considers not only physical elements as dance, but also optical, sensorial and, above all, spatiotemporal components as part of the choreography.

今回は「インプロと技術」の話です。恐らくこのインプロインタビューの最終話となります。
インプロビゼーションがベースの梅田、そしてSomatic Field Projectですが、動きのリサーチと同じくらい、いやそれ以上に、身体技術のトレーニングに時間を割きます。梅田のこの強い信念が、梅田やSomatic Field Projectの身体の強さ、技術の高さに繋がっています。

“Improvisation and physical technique”
Although Umeda and Somatic Field Project are both based on improvisation, they spend as much time, if not more, on physical training as they do on movement research.
This belief of Umeda is what leads to the physical strength and high level of skill in both Umeda and Somatic Field Project.
