On a whim I spent some time looking back at some of my favorite photos from 2024 that I never shared, I'm especially proud of this first one.
1. Lynn watches on as her daughters Lauren and Nicole prepare for Nicole's wedding. #Olympus XA @cinestillfilm 400D
2. I took myself on a trip back to AZ to visit all the places I grew up. It was my first time returning to the place I feel like I'm from in 20 years. I learned a lot about the context in which I grew up. Here's a self portrait at my campsite outside of Winslow, AZ. #Nikon F3 @kodak Color Plus
3. We continued to enjoy a beautiful home life. Here's our son Michael on my first roll with a Minolta, a refurbished X-700. Honestly I was so impressed with the glass and the X-700 is an amazing camera, it's what the AE-1 dreams it could be. #Minolta X-700 Kodak Gold
More from this year's trip to Sequioia and King's Canyon. I really enjoyed my results shooting very expired black and white on my Hasselblad. Unfortunately this was also the trip that showed me I had two leaking film backs but the leaks are kinda tight

In March of this year myself and two photographer friends built some extra time into a travel job to visit King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks.
The Hasselblad did not disappoint.

3. 400H, there's some really fascinating remains of the Indigenous people that lived in that area. This was a mural down in the foothills of the mountain.

In March we'll be pushing more than cats around in this thing.
We're very excited to start our family, I guess they let anyone do it.

🎧 SOUND ON —My oldest friend in the world, @wutangdan9000 , invited me and @hipisjerf to make something for his music festival @portolafestival . He said, “Make whatever you want.” So we did. Enjoy!

Last night we went to “Irish Bred Pub” in Hapeville, just South of us, near the airport. It sits in a strip mall in an area that’s largely corporate parks surrounding Delta’s headquarters. The google maps reviews were promising and spoke highly of their hookah… That traditional Irish hookah of course. You know the soulless cleanliness of strip mall chain restaurants? Imagine that plus 20 ~ years of slow descent into lived-in dive bar. Decorated in stereotypical Irish stuff, the piece d’resistance was this painting near the pool tables. Truly incredible cultural anthropology to be had here.

Last week I participated in my first Mountain Workshop as a documentary student. Each student pulls a slip of paper out of a hat with a name, phone number and brief description of the person. You then have four days to make contact with your subject, decide what story you want to tell, shoot, and edit.
My subject Kris is an amazing woman who has lived a very rich life. I had a VERY tough time choosing one thread to follow, and I was very fortunate to meet someone so open, kind, sharp and funny.
I feel like every ounce of my work and life experience so far went into making this and it was both grueling and tremendously rewarding. I feel like the map has been revealed for my other doc projects that have stalled and I'm really excited to make something else.
I am of course still mixing and working in sound, but I'm open to whatever is next for me.
Tremendous thanks to @mtnworkshops for hosting an amazing workshop. Thanks to @nichuey for pushing me to go when I didn't really feel qualified. And to @ctjanjic and @leslyedavis among others for their wisdom and encouragement. Next time I'll spend more than ten minutes coloring lol
1- A still from the film
2- The slip of paper I drew
3-6 Stills
7- Kris and I

I had the great pleasure of boom operating the first season of English Teacher earlier this year. It was a blast and we had such a great crew. I learned a lot as a boom op from our very seasoned camera ops and managed to get lots of photos too, some with the same lenses the show used (vintage Canon FD's)
All episodes are out now on Hulu and Disney(?)
