There’s a moment after the peak of a night out, the music softens, conversations blur, and the dancefloor becomes something more intimate. Not euphoric, not empty but suspended somewhere in between. That’s where this mix begins.
We spoke with ‘himameda Croatia-based artist about their latest podcast contribution, and everything they described seems to orbit that feeling: the bittersweetness of being together for the last time. This live set moves minimal and repetitive, then suddenly shifting, stretching between long meditative passages and unexpected turns. A quiet push and pull between heart and mind.
At one point, @himameda_ describes the mix as “a soup of sounds that shouldn’t be together, but somehow make more sense than silence.” It’s a strange, almost fragile image, but it catches something essential. When asked to picture the set as a place, their mind goes to Cast Away, specifically the moment Wilson comes into existence. A gesture of connection in isolation.
Emotion runs quietly but deeply through everything ‘himameda does. When we ask about a track that recently moved them, they mention “Love Is Everywhere” by Pharaoh Sanders, riding a bike through the forest, overwhelmed by thoughts of their parents and close friends, crying without holding back. “It’s more joy than emptiness,” they say, “but really both.” That duality also feels like the core of this mix. ‘himameda’s sound is shaped by people, their neighborhood, their parents, childhood memories, but also by loss. Grief, they say, has an immense creative power. Since moving to the Netherlands, the dancefloor has become another kind of teacher, another space where these emotions can take form.
Maybe that’s what makes this mix resonate the way it does. It doesn’t try to define what you should feel. It simply opens a space, somewhere between closeness and distance, joy and ache, and lets you sit there for a while.
