3D PRINTING ON TEXTILES
One-day workshop by Leyla Yunis
29.05.2026, 11:00 - 17:00
Language: English
Location: MotionLab.Berlin
Move beyond typical FDM parts (layer-by-layer plastic extrusion) and into the territory of soft, customized materials. In this hands-on session, participants are introduced to new approaches in 3D printing on textiles, combining material experimentation with practical techniques to create flexible, hybrid surfaces.
A practical entry point for designers, makers, and researchers curious about where 3D fabrication and textile work intersect.
No previous experience needed. Spots are limited.

OPEN SOURCE TOOLS FOR TEXTILES
Workshop by Sara Diaz
22.05.2026, 11:00 - 15:00
Language: English / German
Location: Textile Coop
An introduction to open-source hardware and textile manufacturing tools – working directly with the machines developed by HILO Textiles.
Participants experiment hands-on across the full range of machines, exploring their capabilities for fiber processing, yarn creation, and textile production. The session offers a practical insight into decentralized and accessible manufacturing and how to adapt these technologies for your own creative or production context.
Led by Sara Diaz Rodriguez – textile expert, design researcher, founder of HILO and one of the founders of Textile Coop Berlin. Since 2015, her work has focused on open-source textile tools for circular processes and small-scale production, democratizing access to textile technology.

Rethinking textile manufacturing?
@saradrodriguez builds the infrastructure to make it possible.
➜ Founder of HILO Textiles in Berlin, Sara Diaz Rodriguez works at the intersection of textile design, open-source #hardware, and distributed #manufacturing.
Through HILO, she has developed #opensource spinning and #recycling machines that enable local fiber processing and small-scale yarn production, tools designed not for factories, but for communities, labs, designers, and urban manufacturers.
On March 20th, at Fab City’s Expert Talk, Sara Diaz Rodriguez will share practical insights on how textile production can contribute to urban regeneration.
If you work with urban production, circular economy, maker spaces, fashion innovation, or distributed design, this session offers concrete, tested tools and lessons from the field.

This week with @hilo_textiles at @hawk.gestaltung !
What an exciting event — this week we had the opportunity to take part in a workshop where we learned how to spin using @hilo_textiles ’ spinning machines.
Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge with us!
Thank you to everyone who joined the Textile Recycling Workshop with @hilo_textiles and @sarahprien during the Spor10 Festival 🧶
Participants explored different ways to reuse textile waste – from hand-braiding pouches and making keychains to experimenting with HILO’s open-source braiding machines. The workshop offered a hands-on introduction to small-scale recycling methods and circular design thinking.
We’re excited to announce that several of the textile machines will now be available at maker for our members to use. We'll also be hosting courses and training sessions later this year to support those who want to learn more.

HILO and Sarah are part of My(ne)stery of Matter – a lab for local textile reuse made possible through LAUDS. LAUDS Local Accessible Urban Digital Sustainable Factories (@laudsfactories ) is a Horizon Europe research and innovation action - Co-funded by the European Union, 2024-2026, GA 101135986
The festival was organised by @spor10.cph and supported by @koebenhavnskommune
These days with the expansion of and setup with the beautiful machines from @hilo_textiles - a fantastic technical workshop with Sara from @hilo_textiles and Charlottes clever technical skills - the Mobile Mikro Spinning Mill of @danskfibershed is starting shaping again!
Dansk Fibershed is planning a Fibershed Day in september 2025, where you can see and hear more about the Mill.
