A treat to have Ellena Savage pop by to sign copies of her brilliant novel The Ruiners this morning. And what book is Ellena pressing into people's hands right now, you ask? The Palm House by Gwendoline Riley - of which we also have stock!

Introducing Molly McKew (@mollyalanamckew ) who will be playing music at our Autumn Jamboree! Molly McKew (guitar/vox) performs dreamy, dark, alt-folk with lots of cool harmonies. She released her debut solo EP, ‘I Couldn’t Grasp It', in 2022 and her first album, ‘It should have been done with ease’, in 2024. Hill of Content Jamborees are lovely intimate in-store get-togethers featuring some of our favourite authors and musicians. Around the music and readings, there’s always great wine and conversation. Tickets are free but booking essential. Please RSVP through the link in our bio

Staff book recommendation! Laura has recently been absorbed in Paradiso 17, the latest novel by Hannah Lillith Assadi. Inspired by the life of the author's father, who fled Palestine during the Nakba, this is a sprawling tale of dispossession and its lifelong consequences.

Please join us for an evening of laughs and scintillating conversation between Australian comedy legend and author, Shaun Micallef, and The Monthly editor, Michael Williams, as they discuss Micallef’s latest novel, ‘De’Ath Takes A Holiday’. From the man Ben Elton once described as ‘perhaps Australia’s finest satirist’ comes a Victorian novel for modern times - and we can’t wait to hear all about it! This event is free but please RSVP through the link in our bio

Join us Thursday May 28 in store for our second Hill of Content Jamboree: a lovely evening of wine, readings, music and the charming bookstore atmosphere. Entry is free, and drinks will be provided, but booking here (link in bio) is essential as places are limited. This time we have a reading from poet and novelist Lisa Gorton (recipient of the Prime Minister's Award for Fiction, among many other awards) from her new book 'Mirror Landscapes', and another from novelist Michael Winkler (shortlistee for the Miles Franklin Award) from his new book 'Griefdogg'. We'll also have song sets from musicians Molly McKew and Bobby Flynn, of the wonderful albums 'It Should Have Been Done With Ease' and 'Real World' respectively. And finally we'll be featuring actor Angus Keech reading from artist-writer Joe Brainard's poignant and tender and funny book 'I Remember'. The Hilly team looks forward to seeing you there x
