Leaving our jobs and home at Camp Mitchell this year was not anything I saw coming, but after months of grieving and rebuilding I can honestly say I’m thankful for the push. Little Rock IS Magic. We are deeply grateful to our community for being such a soft place to land. The relief we felt being received into your loving arms is indescribable. One of these days I will share more about our time on the mountain. For now, I just want to say thank you to our irreplaceable, unshakable, radically inclusive, wildly gifted, HILARIOUS, and loving staff, volunteers, and campers. Camp Mitchell is SO SPECIAL and thanks to all of you, it continues to be a shining example of inclusivity and play focused growth. I’m proud of the work we did and the work that Andy, Cam, and Michael continue to do with the help of their sensational staff and the entire Camp Mitchell community. I still carry confusion and sadness about the timing of our transition, but I am consistently astounded by our ability to bounce back when life throws us a curveball. Our deepest gratitude goes to our closest friends and family. It has never been lost on us how communities such as the one surrounding us grow increasingly more rare by the day. As always, Whitewater Tavern remains our haven. I am back behind the bar and continue my long standing career as in-house doodler. Sean has started his official WWT retirement career as part time door guy; while he also serves full time as the Director of Operations at the INCREDIBLE Potluck Food Rescue. Duncan will never retire from being exceptional. He continues to live his best life, unfazed by upheavals and unending change.

2025 marks my 30th year as an independent member of the Camp Mitchell community. It is my 24th serving in some kind of capacity on staff. Last week I was honored at the national Episcopal Camps and Conference Center conference at the great Kanuga in Western North Carolina with one of the first Trailblazer awards. Maybe one day I’ll have the words to express how deeply meaningful it is to be recognized by my peers with an honor of this meaning and magnitude. I feel so humbled to share the award alongside the first class of recipients. Among them, five of my dear friends and admired colleagues. To be recognized in a way that shines a light on an act of service modeled to me by both my parents is more meaningful than I can possibly put into words. @episcopalccc @campmitchell (Sal and Larn, Camp Mitchell 1995, 2024 Trailblazer Award, and Reverend Bosmyer and Reverend Washington, Camp Mitchell 1976)

Melissa Carper and Rebecca Patek will be performing and celebrating the long hoped for release of their 2018 album Brand New Old Time Songs on vinyl live at The Undercroft TONIGHT, Thursday May 2nd! This album changed my life. When it came out in 2018, I was feeling pretty lost. This powerful collection of songs quickly became one of the soundtracks of my life and it has never stopped playing. It’s my happy music and it’s my sad music. I have mourned what I’ve lost and celebrated the life I’ve built while listening to it. I call it my car CD. When my old car broke down on the interstate outside Nashville in July 2022 it’s the only thing I saved. Only seemed fitting considering the number of times it saved me. This show is going to be really special. If you know anyone who loves folk, traditional, roots, and country music, but doesn’t feel very celebrated or represented in it, this is the band to get to know. Y’all come out to see and hear this beautiful, perfect-to-me collection of tunes live and in-person at The Undercroft tonight at 8! $10 at the door. Swipe to see yer gal all grown and happy. (I still miss that old Subaru for real tho, y’all.)

These big hearted, big singing, dreamboats are making their Undercroft debut TONIGHT, April 11th. We feel so honored to welcome them not only as musicians we deeply admire, but also as friends. Their warmth and love for The Natural State and gift of sharing stories through song will be palpable in the church basement tonight. Come on out Central Arkansas. It’s definitely worth the 10 bucks. Show kicks off at 8. Yes, there is beer.

Turns out I make a lot of these. Here are a few favorites from 2023. It’s not lost on me what a gift it is to be able to be in the presence of and make art for so many folks I admire. Thanks as always to the WWT for having me along for the ride. And to all the musicians and artists: I see y’all. THANK YOU for sharing so much of yourselves with all of us. We are certainly better because of it 💥⚡️🖤✨🌈🔥
