There was a time in my life when living in Philadelphia felt bitterly unforgiving. Everywhere I went, my differences were pointed out. I didn’t fit the typical mold of what was considered normal by those around me. My views, my perspective—things that were unique to me—were often laughed at and undervalued.
For a long time, I believed I didn’t belong in this city and refused to return.
It’s interesting how losing someone can shift your perspective.
On this visit to Philadelphia, I chose to remove the lens of past trauma and see the city for what it truly is—a place of art, culture, and incredible food.
On the second day of my trip, I decided to meditate and connect with the spirit of Philadelphia. This is what she said to me:
“My darling boy, you cannot control people or their reactions to things and people that exist outside their comfort zones. You are beautiful, and when you focus on the beauty within yourself, you will find beauty wherever you go.”
I’m still learning and growing, and I will be traveling for the next year of my life. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

My journey of self-discovery is revealing that my emotions are profoundly influenced by the experiences I've shared with others. At times, it feels as if I'm navigating within the mournful echoes of my own shadow, while I strive to explore my deepest self. In recent times, the formidable task of reconciling the immense load of shame I carry has been increasingly challenging.
This burden of shame is often derived from the actions I permit in my life or lessons ingrained from past experiences. I recall a period when the world was a fresh canvas to me. Every adventure I embarked upon seemed to fuse seamlessly into the ensuing one. However, as I aged, I realized that life is less about our beliefs and more about our perceptions.
This notion is exemplified in the tale of a child who grew up in a world that drastically deviated from his beliefs. As if in an instant, the world and its inhabitants transformed, and the instincts that came naturally to him became menacing to those around him.
During my formative years, I failed to understand the stark contrast between others' perceptions of me and my self-image.
One crucial lesson I've gleaned is that perceptions are molded by one's life experiences. This becomes an issue when an individual projects their perceptions and associated beliefs onto others.
The past half-decade has been a period of profound learning for me, and one thing I can assert with certainty is this: Life is a voyage, and you alone hold the right to steer its course.
Perceptions and beliefs of others need not be obstacles on your path. Ensure they do not become so.

Achievement comes with knowledge of what can be achieved, and this information only comes when we allow ourselves to be who we innately are. While growing within ourselves, we must understand ourselves in a way that opens our hearts to others. In the midst of what we believe to be possible, we deny ourselves because we know “all” is possible.
