We're really looking forward to hosting Connor Clements for this event on Friday 21st July, 11am-4pm at The Masham.
Come and see how he is bringing lost buildings and spaces to life through new technology with Middlesbrough's Historic Quarter as inspiration!
Drop in event.
Everyone welcome.
Refreshments provided.
Connor will be sharing his ongoing work as part of the first phase of this research by exhibiting approaches to reinterpreting archival material. Prints and interactive VR walk throughs of modelled spaces in progress will be available for viewing, with visitors invited to offer feedback to support the further development of this virtual spatial archive.
As part of a MA Architecture at the University of Liverpool, WDT/Dovetail Joints Director Connor Clements thesis, ‘The Spatial Archive’ utilizes AI and VR technologies to reimagine and revive lost heritage structures and spaces of Middlesbrough’s past. Methods include experimenting with 3D modelling archival photographs and stitching them together with interpretive spatial tissue.
Connor Clements is currently an MA Architecture student studying at the University of Liverpool. Originally from Middlesbrough, Connor has previously managed and collaborated with a number of arts organizations in Teesside, digitizing the cultural output of the arts sector in partnership with galleries and educational institutions. Through current studies, Connor has focused on creating virtual twins, applying VR technologies in architectural design, and integrating AI/VR technology into heritage reimagining for public engagement.

On Thursday 27th April we are holding the next part of our HSHAZ zine project for #YourPublicRealm.
Back in February we held a zine making workshop with artist, Sara Cooper where people came into The Masham to make a zine in response to the development of public space in the Historic Quarter. Between then and now we have pulled those contributions together and will be sharing that in The Masham as part of our Arts & Heritage Meet Ups programme running on Thursdays.
Join us from 11am when we'll be sharing those contributions and putting the final zine together. There will be an opportunity to build on this further and add your own contributions to the zine to take away on the day.
11am-4pm. Free. Refreshments provided. Everyone welcome
27 Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 1RL

Middlesbrough Historic Quarter - FREE Project site visits
Tuesday 14th March. Visits available from 9.30am and 11am (approx 1hr 40mins per group visit)
Locations include 1 Albert Road (Bloom), 2-3 Exchange Place (former Kalinka)
These site visits, facilitated by SPACE Architects on behalf of Middlesbrough Council, will involve a chance to see, from on the scaffold, conservation and development work being part funded by High Street Heritage Action Zone grants.
Project Conservation Architects for two of the buildings from SPACE and Ainsworth Spark Associates, along with representatives from the contractors undertaking the works, will be on hand to describe not only the history of the buildings but the methods being used to repair the historic fabric. There will also be an explanation of the process such projects must go through.
The two buildings you will visit are made from different materials and are from different dates so a wide range of repair works are being undertaken. Works to various elements will be at different stages, allowing visitors to see how the fabric is prepared, how the works are undertaken, and how completed work looks up close rather than from on the ground.
Please note –
• A safety induction will be carried out as part of each site visit.
• Safety helmets and Hi-Viz jackets will be provided.
• Participants will be expected to wear their own robust, enclosed footwear.
• The visit will require participants to be able to climb narrow ladders onto scaffolds.
• Suitable for 16 years and over.
Visits will include free refreshments kindly provided by Commerce House in Exchange Square.
Places are FREE but must be booked in advance via Eventbrite links below.
