About a year ago, my friend Hannah visited me at the studio. Among so many gifts, Hannah Thual is a really talented photographer. And over the years I ve kept begging her to take my portrait.
She lives in London and has too many friends too see when she comes to Paris, but the long waited day finally arrived. I must confess I d actually forgotten our meeting, and had too many drinks the night before. Wasn’t too sure about the outcom of this visit.
I remember us chatting, me talking too much - as always, and showing the work in progress. Paintings about memory, apparition and fading away. The only thing I don’t remember is Hannah taking pictures.
A few months later, I received a file titled « portrait of a friend in pain » and didn’t had a clue about what that could be inside.
The content stroke me by the quality and the sensibility of her shots. Not just a few good pictures, but tens of it. And it took me while to choose my favorite ones, and find the proper words to go alongside those.
These images are not just beautiful, they re true.
As Hannah Thual doesn’t just has a good eye, she has a soul too.
