There’s a larger discussion to be had here about the problem with correlating elite athletics to health. Elite sports are not healthy. Not physically, not mentally, not really in any way at all. There is a spectrum of health and fitness and the people who occupy the middle and are the best combination of both fitness and health are not winning the Tour de France. That doesn’t mean that we can’t appreciate the dedication, time, and effort that goes into this level of achievement. We can, and we do. We love sports. But we have to stop holding women to a different standard. We have to stop cheering for their success while also expecting them to check every single box of “womanhood” along the way. It’s not fair, it’s not nice, and if we’re trying to teach the younger generation how to be kind and generous with themselves and others - policing women like this isn’t the way. #poweryourpotential

The hypocrisy within the wellness, fitness, and nutrition space is staggering. And the narratives that come from this space have real world implications when they start to impact the choices that people make about their own health and happiness. If you understand one thing about this industry, understand that it relies on your fear and insecurity for revenue. The thing that is most frightening to Wellness Industrial Complex is the idea that any of us could ever be truly happy with ourselves. Because if you can find happiness, if you can find ease in our pursuit of wellness, if you can find real internal satisfaction then you don’t need to buy whatever the next big thing is that promises to solve all of your problems. And if you work in this space, for f*cks sake be better. Every professional in this industry also gets to make a choice and it’s whether or not to be a good guy or a shit head. Where are my Science Olympiad and Drama Club kids at?? It takes some of us a long time to accept vulnerability and learn to take action in spite of it but that is a lesson that is better learned late than never at all. Sign up for the class, ride your bike, hire the coach, take whatever that first step is because that’s the hardest one. You will realize that no one cares if you look silly. Not naming names because A) this is a problem bigger than one person and B) when I made a video poo pooing the Galveston Diet Book (just for example), a certain someone got really mad and stitched my video but made sure to clip out the part where I made my very convincing point. People like this are good at omitting the really important context. This applies to Huberman, Attia, and a whole bunch of other celebrity MDs and PhDs who make a lot of money from leveraging their professional designations to make “trust me bro” kind of arguments that are not based in science. People who are based in science don’t tend to make blanket statements. So anyways, be careful out there. You get to choose where your time goes, whose content you consume, and who you let influence your emotional energy. If someone is scaring you and making you feel powerless and panicked, they are not a good person to follow. I realize we live in a time where being a good person has become a weakness but good people are still out there, you just have to look for them. This is not to discount the difficulty of the menopause transition and the way many women experience it. Two things can be true at once. The menopause transition is a hard time AND a lot of people in the space who claim to be helpers are actually really shitty. #poweryourpotential #womenshealth #science #nutrition #fitness

And guess what, if I had my strength training sessions on a graph, that line would be trending down. But that’s still consistency! That’s me balancing what I have energy for and what makes sense in the context of my goals right now. You can’t do everything all the time. No one only flows, we have to ebb too. And maybe it’s best if we don’t make that into a problem or some indication of your commitment to improvement, you know? Commit to consistently showing up in your capacity and be OK with what that looks like. This approach will let you stay true to all of your values and balance the other things in your life while you grow and make progress over time. He also stated in the trial that it took him 100 hours to assemble his new trial binder AND that in the 5 years he’s been in business (he confirmed he pours on average 109 days out of the year) that he’s done 800 concrete jobs. In a region that has a combined population of only 65,000 people and no shortage of concrete companies. That’s one concrete job every 1.5 days. If he keeps going at this rate, I reckon the entire region will be covered in bad concrete! Some people are wild, truly. Brandolini’s law, or the “bullshit asymmetry principle,” states that the energy required to refute misinformation is an order of magnitude greater than that needed to produce it. Can confirm.
