Big night in San Francisco! The legendary @sundancesatter was honored with the Mel Novicoff award by @sffilm for her work transforming the independent film landscape through her work at the @sundanceorg labs for directors, writers and producers since 1981. She has mentored everyone from @juxryan and @chloezhao and @paulthomasanderson to today’s group of up-and-coming filmmakers like @ramzibashour@cinerebel860@mychivas Sean Wang and so many more. Her impact on a generation of filmmakers is profound. After her award, we all watched @beaststhemovie Then, intending to drop Ramzi off downtown, instead I joined the birthday celebration for @max.w_s (33!!) at LiPo in Chinatown, Sam’s burgers and then they kept going at SF’s oldest bar: The Saloon.
Late Fame just opened the @sffilm festival. Greta Lee and Kent Jones talked about how the film came together. Greta says the grand diva actress like the one she played are becoming extinct. Willem DeFoe plays a postman who is rediscovered by a group of young intellectuals for a book of poetry he wrote 40 years earlier. Greta Lee says he’s a dream acting partner because of his incredible talent … and also because he’s on time and knows his lines. So glad to be back in the @castrotheatre !
The most amazing random Saturday night fireworks show from a barge in San Francisco Bay. Who knows why? It rivaled the New Year’s Eve show they do for the whole city!
