grateful, grateful, grateful 💙
on thursday night, to a sold out crowd, I had my solo debut here in the greatest city on earth, and to say I feel astonished, grateful, lucky, overwhelmed, alive, I dunno, it all risks sounding real maudlin real quick, but here’s one thing I know for certain:
no one does it alone.
so, I want to shout out people without whom I could have never done this.
know them, HIRE THEM, and love them as much as I do. no, really: do it!!!
to every person who was there at tgr42 or watched online, I love you, and in the spirit of the show, I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to adequately communicate my gratitude. for now, the seemingly paltry english phrase “thank you” will have to barely suffice. 💙
BREAKING: gay millennial secures crucial gen z icon for his first-ever solo show, making the math to 270 MUCH clearer. sankoh would be first VP to be inaugurated in FULLY thrifted garment.
okay but for real: one day in a few years, you’re going to want to be able to say, “omg, I saw khadija sankoh live at the green room 42 BEFORE she blew up. also, what was that other guy’s name again? the loud one who spoke at a sort of illegible tempo? oh ‘josh DANIELSSSSS.’ definitely two daniels. not just one. plural! do you think he’s OK?”
JUST JOSHIN’! my last name IS indeed singular, but no one is more singular than THEE inimitable KHADIJA SANKOH, who’ll be joining me at my SHOW in just under TWO WEEKS!

IT’S TRUE: @greyhenson & I will be TAKING the stage together for the first time since the 2nd obama administration ‼️
will we make you laugh? cry? have a sort of stunning moment of self-realization and come out of the closet??? ANY/ALL options are on the table, but you gotta come april 16th to experience it yourSELF!
well, it was this or, I dunno, a PODCAST ‼️
I’M DOING A SHOW! there will be songs! there will be stories! there will be special guests!!!
more to come, but in the spirit of rigorous honesty: I’ve never done a solo show in NYC, and it’d mean the world to have you there for my very first, happening at @thegreenroom42 .
link in bio for TICKETS and a livestream available if you’ve (understandably) fled the country!!! 💙
8.29.05: “forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit.”
20 years ago today, I was very many things –– and one of them was a latin student.
in latin, we studied virgil’s aeneid. I remember basically none of it, but there’s one line that’s clung to me as the storms of my life have come and gone over the years.
“forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit.”
the translation (much like me 20 years ago) can be very many things to very many different people (who are also very many things themselves), but I’d personally revive the text to sound something like this:
“perhaps, one day –– it will be a joy to remember even these things.”
the waves that an extremely organized group of rainclouds brought to the coast of louisiana 20 years ago today changed the course of my life forever, in ways that only grow more tangible the farther away that day gets. katrina’s waters have receded, but her lessons still rise.
today, as I weather the memory of twenty year old weather, I’m growing more cognizant of the storms that come ashore in our lives every single day, and I’m doing my best to anchor in faith that, yes: perhaps, one day, it will be a joy to remember *even these things,* be it august 2005 or august 2025.
new orleans, you certainly taught me how to sing, but more importantly, you taught me why. I’ll let randy newman’s song speak the language of my heart better than my fingers can today.
I love you, new orleans. soul is waterproof. ⚜️
Rejoice, Tri-state Area, we’re doing a book launch event in NYC! Come join me on Monday, October 6th at 6pm at The Corner Bookstore along with special guest performers @christisomers and @cruzkayne . I had to enlist my best friend @heyjoshdaniel to announce this, because I knew his serious demeanor would get you to listen.
