E Q U A L | Sister Duo

Stupid is out now. This one was a battle, but an adventure. Our first co write ever, our first time traveling to NYC, first time ever on a plane, and working with our musical inspirations Dr Blum, Marc Campbell, J Glaze and Kajun Waters on the board. The whole day, we could only get the chorus and verse one with the arrangement. The 2nd verse wasn’t written until months later, atleast 5 different, finished versions of verse two are floating in my voice notes- this is the only one that I was sure fit the song and its meaning. The team was patient, kind and considerate while we were attempting to write a perfect song- the pressure to impress was weighing heavy on our shoulders. This song is about our roots, coming from a family with a Habitat for Humanity home, having to start our career fully self funded when we were born into poverty. It is talking about the comparisons of us to others who are further in their career than us, comparing their lives and advantages to ours in jealousy. It’s wondering if we sacrifice meaning in music in trades for commercial success so we can further fund our music. But it’s being grateful we were born in struggle, as it taught us to work for our career, instead of having it handed to us. The creation of this song, how long it took to nail due to insecurities of not creating the right product, the stagnation of drive and inspiration and the fear that leads to procrastination and self doubt- it’s all a metaphor for what this song has always been about… even in the moments where I had no clue what the song was about. Huge thanks to every person who had a hand in this song- it’s the biggest team we have ever had. PARALLEL- THE EP out February 15th. We are so excited to share our next body of work with you guys. We decided on the name Parallel because Saleen and I have always been told we are night and day, like yin and yang. We are similar to parallel lines in the way that we never really intersect, and our only common thread is we are both running in the same direction. The songs on this EP pull from a variety of different places in our lives, while still showing both the Parallels between each song, as well as the lines that run side by side in your own life. We hope you find relatability in what we have to say on this new project. We hope we say something you haven’t quite been able to articulate on your own. But lastly, what else is an equal sign, but two Parallel lines? This is only the start 🟰
