Second Sedona Dump. So many nice moments here. Bunnies, blue bird who walk and fly right up to me. Beautiful mountains and sunsets. A picture of my aura. Mood shots. And my guide Rahelio playing the flute on z vortex site. And more.
Sedona. Tomorrow is my last full day here. But Sedona is beautiful and it is special. And it’s all about the rocks. I met so many lovely people here. And had wonderful hikes and meditated on vortexes and ate lovely food.
My friend Michael Dennis and Reelblack Inc. has done a thing. He took up the call to restore this movie “RIVERBEND”and it will screen at BAM on the 24th of February. I am so excited for him and as a friend proud of him. He has been uplifting and raising awareness for black cinematic history ever since I met him in the dark room at NYU. Buy a ticket and show support if you can! I’ll be there with bells on.
The last dance at sundance. I am finally home. Cold and all. I will miss the laughter. I will miss the movies. I will miss the people. I will miss the talks. I will miss the lunches. But I will miss the community most of all. I’ve been coming here since 2000. Sleeping on peoples couches and floors, running into people I haven’t seen in years , getting good belly laughs, inspiration, the excitement of getting into parties and the disappointment of not getting into parties. In some ways I’ve grown up here, in other ways I felt like a child again. The last dance at sundance. I’m so glad that I was there to experience it and with so many people that I love.
So they say better late than never. I wanted to take a moment to do a shout out to the Woodstock Film Festival that passed recently. I really didn’t have time to post until now cause it’s just been a whirlwind. But it was such a great festival this year, as it is every year. Some of the highlights for me were getting to introduce and do the Q&A’s for the movie “The Floaters” which also won a Best Director award from NYWIFT at the festival and getting to know and hang out with the amazing team behind it (Nancy Collet and Shai Korman) And getting to do the Q&A for “Arrest The Midwife”( where some of the Mennonites showed up) as well as friends Rachel Shuman and Robin Hessman. Most exciting for me was getting to do the Q&A of “Cover-Up” with Laura Poitras, the Director and her archival producer, Olivia Streisand. “Cover-up” is an important and amazing story and I hope everyone gets to see it. And of course it was an honor to speak with Laura Poitras who is one of our most gifted inevestigative filmmakers. And this film is no exception.
Other great moments: doing the Q&A for Idiotka and Park Avenue. And getting to watch the beautiful “The Testament of Ann Lee “produced by my friend Lillian. And the exceptional documentary “Holding Liat” by the wonderful Brandon Kramer
So many other fun things were done and had sadly I got no fun pictures of hanging out with my friend Brian Newman or Tom Davis. But I did get some nice photos with Lillian LaSalle and Jill Campbell, two of my ride or die friends. Anyway, overall, I think a fun time was really hard by all. Such a special and amazing festival. And I just wanna take a moment to shout out Meira Blaustein, who has really made this festival into such a warm community event.
