Last year we asked what you wanted.
You responded, "More energy!"
We listened!
IRKED are one of the most exciting North East punk bands happening right now. Their new album debuted at no. 21 in the UK official album charts 😲💜
IRKED bring high energy live punk, likened to 80-90s Seattle punk band, The Gits but supercharged. They are a proper punk band from the North East of England, making snotty radge music since 2022, built on 15 years of friendship.
Drawing from the raw energy of modern garage punk, ’80s hardcore and eggy post-punk, the band have quickly built a reputation for their fierce, high-energy sound and uncompromising live shows; a chaotic, upfront mix of intensity, dark wit and clarting about.
Following their 2024 single, 'Backstreets', they have been gaining a reputation both in the studio and live. Their new album, 'The Grievance' recorded at Blank Studios Newcastle in 2025, part-funded by PRS Foundation’s Open Fund for Music Creators has been receiving international acclaim since its release.
"The Grievance is born out of this excitement for playing live and the noble desire to rip it up. However, as with all the best party music there's a mission statement too. Dancing to Betty Davis or Syl Johnson or Bikini Kill or Public Enemy is all well and good in the clubs, but when you really dig into it, you are taught and inspired as well as entertained.
As the title suggests, there is spleen being vented here, just as when Huggy Bear vented, or Dead Kennedys vented, or X-Ray Spex vented. IRKED’s rage might be tempered by wit and killer hooks but it’s still laser focused. The Grievance is genuinely righteous music made by people embedded in their local community and rightly enraged at the world around them."
We are incredibly excited to launch Hexham Punk Pride with IRKED's high energy riffs and vocals. This is a band that is going places fast.

@stonewalluk if Sex Matters is praising you for updating your definition of transphobia, then you are not getting it right and failing transgender people.
Hexham Pride, calls on @stonewalluk to correct this error of judgement and protect transgender people.
Denying the existence of transgender people is by any sane person's definition, transphobic.
