In this year’s Federal Budget, for HESTA members, there are positive developments supporting the cost of living, including measures such as personal income tax cuts and offsets, reductions in the cost of medicines and fuel, and ongoing efforts to boost the supply of housing.
HESTA has long called for an increase to the Low Income Superannuation Tax Offset (LISTO), and this Budget delivers. From 1 July 2027, the LISTO income threshold will rise from $37,000 to $45,000 and the maximum annual payment will increase from $500 to $810, expected to benefit around 1.3 million low-income workers. Almost two-thirds of LISTO recipients are women, many working in lower-paid caring professions. This is a positive step toward closing the gender super gap.
Also in super, your account is exempt from the capital gains tax (CGT) discount changes, as the Budget's CGT reforms will not apply to assets held inside super funds. We’re also excited to see the Paid Parental Leave scheme expanded to 26 weeks from 1 July 2026, with super now paid on every one of those weeks. Also beginning from 1 July 2026, will be Payday Super, meaning your super will be paid at the same time as your salary and wages, rather than quarterly, helping it grow by being invested.
HESTA is also pleased to see the $3.7 billion investment in aged care, the $25 billion into public hospitals and $1.8 billion invested into new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, further supporting the sector where the majority of our members work, while advancing patient care.

Navigating the emotional aftermath of a separation can be overwhelming, and the financial impact that comes with it can add an extra layer of stress during a challenging time.
Whether you're married or in a de facto relationship, super may form part of the assets divided between you and your former partner. But super splitting isn't mandatory, and it currently happens in less than one in three divorces*.
If you do choose to split, the Family Court may consider the full picture, including super contributed during the relationship, each person's financial situation moving forward, and any care responsibilities or commitments to children or dependants.
Learn more about how super is divided in a separation and the key things to consider through the link in our bio.
