The Heike monogatari (The Tale of the Heike Clan) begins with these famous lines, which show impermanence as the basis for the feeling of mono no aware:

Sometimes an image in shades of grey is more expressive than the full-colour version. In this case, the absence of colour and the emphasis on the colour of the bent corner flag highlight the anticlimax of the image’s narrative. I feel a connection to the Japanese concept of ‘Wabi Sabi’. Of course, this cannot be translated into Western terms. Imperfection and transience are embraced or even sought after. Beauty lies in incompleteness, impermanence and imperfection.

As far as I am concerned, black and white photography today is nothing more than a filter. Albeit a filter with sentimental value and a reference to the beginnings of photographic imagination, which is somehow recognized in our brains as a representation of the world around us. At that time, there was no other option than to display the photographic image in grayscale on a flat surface. Now it is a choice we make. In doing so, I constantly ask myself whether the representation in grayscale contributes to the expressive power of the image as an autonomous entity.
Furthermore, I find it quite difficult to get a crow properly in focus. I have tried it often, but they tend to fly away before I can press the shutter button.

Sinnwahn:
Een sfeerimpressie van mijn tentoonstelling die afgelopen zondag in de Kopermolen in Vaals werd geopend. De tentoonstelling is tot en met 31 januari elke vrijdag tot en met zondag te bezichtigen van 13.00 tot 17.00 uur. Aanstaande weekend (29/30 november) ben ik er zelf ook op zaterdag en zondag. De compositie "sinnwahn" van Jan Sluijsmans (@jansluijsmansmusic ) zal ook tijdens de tentoonstelling te horen zijn.
An impression of my exhibition, which opened last Sunday at the Kopermolen in Vaals. The exhibition can be viewed every Friday through Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM until January 31st. Preview — “Sinnwahn”
Soon I will present new work at my solo exhibition Sinnwahn at De Kopermolen in Vaals. The opening takes place on 23 November at 3 p.m.
I will show around 25 works, most of which have not been exhibited before.
The camera is always the starting point — digital post-processing ranges from clearly photographic images to almost completely abstract ones.
For me, that distinction is of little importance: every image is a sublimation of the creator’s inner world. Photography offers me a means to shape and transform that world — a medium in which perception, interpretation, and imagination converge.

In Kürze zeige ich neue Arbeiten in meiner Einzelausstellung Sinnwahn in der Kopermolen in Vaals. Die Eröffnung findet am 23. November um 15.00 Uhr statt.
Ich werde etwa 25 Werke präsentieren, die größtenteils noch nicht gezeigt wurden.
Ausgangspunkt ist stets die Kamera – die digitale Nachbearbeitung reicht von eindeutig fotografischen Bildern bis hin zu nahezu vollständiger Abstraktion.
Für mich ist dieser Unterschied zweitrangig: Jedes Bild ist eine Sublimation der inneren Welt seines Schöpfers. Die Fotografie bietet mir ein Medium, um dieser Welt Form zu geben – ein Raum, in dem Wahrnehmung, Interpretation und Imagination zusammenfallen.
