Today, HERP CAMEROON is in Douala for the Open Day organized ahead of Cameroon’s National Unity Day celebrations, at the MINFOF stand.
From the dense forests of the South to the mountains of the West, the savannahs of the North to the wetlands of the Littoral, Cameroon is home to an extraordinary diversity of reptiles and amphibians — a natural heritage that connects us all beyond our differences.
Herpetology is more than the study of reptiles and amphibians.
It is a commitment to understanding, protecting, and valuing the ecosystems that unite our communities and shape our national identity.
Every species plays a role.
Every ecosystem matters.
And together, protecting our biodiversity means protecting a part of Cameroon itself.

Just a few days ago, we were deep in the wild landscapes of Mount Manengouba, surrounded by mist, forest trails, and the hidden life of Cameroon’s biodiversity.
Today… the environment has completely changed.
No more mountain silence.
No more night calls from the forest.
The HERP CAMEROON team is now preparing for a very different kind of mission — one that brings us closer to people, exchange, and awareness.

Nearly 30% of the frog species in Cameroon’s Mount Manegouba are threatened with extinction, with populations declining by over 70% since 2000.

🌿 MISSION REPORT — MOUNT MANENGOUBA
After 10 days of expedition on Mount Manengouba, the HERP CAMEROON team returns from an intense adventure carried out alongside ASH WILD PICTURES as part of the production of a documentary film dedicated to our field activities.
Through night surveys, long forest treks, challenging weather conditions, and wildlife observations in their natural habitat, this mission captured unique moments at the heart of Cameroon’s biodiversity.
For several days, cameras and headlamps followed our team through the realities of field research: exploring, observing, documenting, and working alongside the children of the Monts Mbouroukou Public School a powerful symbol of sustainable ecosystem conservation while improving our understanding of the reptiles and amphibians living within these exceptional habitats.
Mount Manengouba continues to reveal a fascinating biological richness, reminding us of the importance of research and conservation in these still little-known ecosystems.
