The word "independence" connotes autonomy and an opportunity for self-actualization. The independence of a nation speaks to the people's ability to make decisions that would ultimately be in favour of their growth and their right towards the pursuit of happiness.
In the 64years since Nigeria gained her independence, we have encountered numerous challenges that could be considered as growing pains. From the need for socio-economic reforms to infrastructural problems, tribalism and bigotry, religious extremism, the declining heath sector, our failing educational system, and the varnishing middle class. This list is unending.
The truth is, Nigeria is not an individual, Nigeria is all of us. We all have a role to play in making our country what we hope it would be. Irrespective of the hat you wear, Nigeria is our responsibility. In the words of #findingmessiah, no one is coming to save us. We alone can save ourselves.
